Russell Martin and his/our squad

Morris was a massive signing but got injured in his first (?) game ffs

Poor coops without his striker but still had a premier league side

Tell you what boys, the game has definitely gone.

Never before in my 40 years supporting this club have i seen us clapping the opposing teams manager before the game has kicked off. Made me sick to see hear that nonsense on Saturday. Fuck Russ and Southampton.

Like a few years ago when a large contingent of the Jack Army decided to serenade Lee Trundle at Ashton Gate whilst playing for the Wurzles, so our lot have previous for this sort of malarkey...

This squad is bang average 2nd division fodder on millions.. what are we, 16th, that's our reality.. we're garbage

And never before have I seen a fan write an open comment stating they want us to lose against the opposition. Some of our lot have lost the plot.

Well, the fact the majority think Matt Grimes and Russ are Pirlo and Pep tells you that they're living in some parallel universe.. millions they're getting paid for rubbish 2nd division football.. but, but the yanks are evil incarnate and don't back the manager horse crap is spouted on this very forum.. I'd sack the lot down there, sometimes you've got to change.. lately they can't pass 5 yards to one another.. my nan could literally pass 5 yards to me FFS and her legs have gone

And she likes Elvis.

Conveniently forgetting the Morris and Areola debacle there Eteb.

And not getting him the striker he wanted when we were knocking on the door of automatic promotion.

Or the fact he preferred to go on the dole than work with our owners a minute longer.

If that makes me a collosal twat, then I'm not quite sure where that leaves you on the twat scale. Gigantic perhaps? Or how about mammoth?

He worked most of the summer doing preseason so maybe a few minutes longer. Had completely checked out before the final whistle in the playoffs, but stuck around picking up his (pretty small) pay cheque a few months. Then "gardening leave" rather than the dole.

People can disparage Martin and Southampton's achievements as much as they like - plenty still seem to want to do so - but all that's happening there is showing how stupid our owners were for forcing him out and not supporting him enough while he was here. Saying that out loud will boil some people's piss but it's true.
You are overlooking the fact that Southampton have been on an amazing streak since the club's owners told Martin to stop messing about and win games, or be sacked. And wonder of wonders, Martin decided that his principles were less important than he had previously believed. By sacrificing his ponderous build-up play and suicidal passing in front of goal and actually playing to the strengths of his squad, he has actually achieved something for the first time in his career.

I do blame the owners and management for our failure to progress last season (and the one before). But not because they wouldn't open their wallets, but because they didn't tell him to stop arseing about much sooner.

Name me one player we were linked with other than Key who would have made a difference this time last year. We needed pace and creativity, he was trying to buy more of the same rubbish that has left us where we are now.

If he was here now we'd be in the same boat, or worse. As you know.

Very good post indeed.

Good post Cadleigh.
I gave up my season ticket before 22/23 season, as I just couldn’t cope with any more Martin ball. Been watching on stream ever since.

Have to say I feel likewise, that the quality of the squad is just gradually dropping, season by season. We‘re now too reliant on loans and even the quality of them is getting poorer ( with exception of Rushworth who is going to be a fine keeper in due course). Both Ashby & Humphreys especially are well below par for me.
I long for the 2010/11 type of squad, where we had a solid spine of our OWN team with pace, sprinkled with a couple of loan players to complement what we had.
God those were the days….

The mental gymnastics you will employ to besmirch anything the guy does really takes the breath away.

He could have recorded Sgt Pepper, and you'd claim the real genius behind it was George Martin.

He definitely shagged your wife and no one will ever tell me otherwise.

Bloody hell Jasper, I didn't mean he literally went on the dole.

I was just pointing out that he preferred to put himself out of work, than stay here a minute longer. Surely you can't contest that.

You should write what you mean rather than expecting people to decode creative re-interpretations of the past. He stayed in the position through the Eustace drama until about two weeks before Martin came in. He didn't want to continue, but not to the point where he would "put himself out of work" or give up what he was contractually obligated to.
