Russell Martin is set to be appointed new Rangers Manager.

Wouldn't adapt or change. Not couldn't. He knew all along that he could get better performances out of the players he had by ditching his "process". He just chose not to.

People point at that late run like it was him turning the corner as a coach. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that we'd have started any future season under him the exact same way as we normally played once the pressure was off. Just like he played the same way at Southampton. There's an ego fed desire in there to prove himself right against a Mt Everest of evidence to the contrary.

A clip of his interview with Lineker is doing the rounds somewhere where he insists that he wasn't expecting to get the sack at Southampton because they were "doing good things". That's the level of mentality that he has.
This one will make you laugh

To be fair he looked different with Southampton in the Championship, same with Cooper when he left for Forest the teams looked different and more attacking I thought.
The problem with being fixated on a set of principles that you apply regardless of circumstances is that you end up being a hostage to fortune. That's very much been the case for Amorin at United, where he's insisted on sticking with 3 at the back despite the fact their squad is ill suited to that approach. Recruitment of better suited players over the summer, such as Cunha, should see an improvement (it could hardly be worse), but some degree of flexibility from Amorin in the first place would have been preferable, and he's lucky to still be at United.

Similar story with Williams. Great fit of players to his preferred 3-4-2-1 in the National league, but insisted on attacking exclusively down the wings with us in spite of Ronald's inconsistency and having no true winger on the left. Rather than changing his approach he threw the players under the bus, which always ends in tears.

Martin could succeed with Rangers, but they will need to completely overhaul the squad. Whether he'll be given the time to get the team to play his way is another matter.

The bit about Amorim says more about the dysfunction at United, although he does seem inflexible like Martin. Under Solskjaer and ten Haag, they acquired lots of wingers - Sancho, Antony, Amad, while Garnacho came through the youth team. Now they've hired a manager who doesn't want natural wingers and they're having to sell all those who don't fit his system (basically all except Amad).

"Luke Williams, the former boss of Swansea City and Notts County, is understood to be one of the leading candidates for the Bristol City job after Liam Manning’s exit."

Now that is a surprise. I expect Williams' next job to be at League Two level, League One if he's lucky. I'd be amazed if he got the Bristol City job.

He did work there for a while as U-21s coach if I recall, so maybe some of the decision makers there thought highly of him and have decided to erase his tenure here from their memories.

Oh yes please.

Martin will soon find out that he can't trot out the type of clap-trap that he's employed so far anymore, the Rangers fans will eat him for breakfast.
There is already a sizeable anti-Russ brigade. This surely won’t end well.

They wanted Davide Ancelotti or Stevie G back (for some reason). Russell Martin is a massive letdown, Rangers are still miles behind Celtic in terms of quality, he'll need a miracle to last more than 9 months at Ibrox.
