How the hell didn’t we get that stonewall penalty decision today?

Enjoyed the game, some excellent football from both sides.
It's bad enough when your not getting the rub of the green, when your not getting stonewallers (same at Leicester) you know something is serious wrong.

Because Soton are a big team and pushing for the 2nd automatic promotion spot including unbeaten in how many games.

If we got that pen then it's a good chance it was game over.......he bottled it.

It’s very had not to feel robbed today. I need to see the replays but from what I saw they should have been down to ten men and instead they had 12. The pen shout again looked really obvious, I’ve lost count at the amount we should have been given this season.

On the positive side I thought we made a very good Southampton side look very average. Widell and Stamenic had fantastic games. Lastly I’m glad Nunes is gone in the Summer.

I’m very positive about Parker and Widdel being our right side next year. Eom was so much better on that side than the left but I’d prefer him at 10, under strict instructions to drive and get us up the pitch.
A lot of negativity around our centre backs, I just don’t want them on the ball as much as they are. Burgess is a 7ft rock, Ronald and Nunes are Brazilian wingers, I think the job descriptions have been mixed up.

Enjoyable game.

Downes should have gone.

Eom should have had a penalty.

Our substitutions were dreadful.

They were better than us in possession but we had the better chances despite sitting back too often and too early.

One particular gripe from me was why we are bringing on loan players at this point in the season when we could be using the games to see what we have. Yalcouye was great when he came on but he’s not going to be available for a permanent deal at a price we can afford (I wouldn’t imagine so anyway) so can’t see the point.

At least he added something to the team though whereas Ward and Nunes fell into the camp of what’s the point plus they made the team worse.

I don’t understand why Parker in particular was taken off.

I also thought it very strange that we used up our subs with quite a way to go. We got away with it but it’s an odd thing to do.

Just back from the game. A quick read through the comments on here backs up what we thought about the red card and the obvious penalty shout. Disappointing not to get something from today. Stamenic, Franco and Widdel were standouts. Eom had a superb first half and Parker did himself a huge impact at full back, so pleased for him. I’m a Matos fan, he’s brought such an improvement to the team, but subs today were a little iffy for me. Saying that, we have another game in a few days so his thoughts were probably with that game in mind. Fed up of saying/writing that the referee was terrible. We lost, but I enjoyed the game, we played some really good football and didn’t deserve to lose. Burgess gave the ball away so many times I lost count, we need a ball playing centre half for next season.

He was, and could play at a higher level than the championship without a doubt. He's been persecuted on here by quite a lot, same goes for Widell. We are lucky to have both youngsters imho.
2 goals and 2 assists in a season tell you all you need to know about Eom. He looks a player , terrific balance and energy , but the stats don't lie. Don't understand the reluctance by successive managers to try him at 10.

Nunes did his best today to make Manuel Benson look like he was a good loan signing

While he was not solely culpable for the winning goal it was his lazy stray pass that gave the ball away under little pressure that led to the run of play the goal came from, then there was his brain dead decision to attempt to nutmeg a player on the edge of our own 18 yard box.

I totally agree that bringing on Ward for Parker offered us little and if anything eliminated the pace threat on our right flank.

Also agree completely about Downes and the penalty shout. Referee today was beyond poor, several wild lunges from their players not punished with a card and several clear outs of our players not even given as free kicks.

This was one of those games that absolutely made me want to champion VAR in the Championship. Confident that both those decisions would have been given differently
