Abysmal ref, compare Downes' conduct to what Yalcouye did v QPR. Ridiculous. There was also a follow through with studs up - ref gave a throw. Eoms pull was a foul but it was probably just outside of the box, and he didn't need to go down, I think he could have carried on and was basically in on goal then.

Fulton could have blocked the winner.

Yalcouye was everywhere when he came on.

Where was Walta today?

Why are we bothering with loan players now?

Good performance overall against a good team, but this is a recurring theme against the top teams. We are incapable of turning decent performances into results, we just aren't ruthless enough.

Agree with rhossili. Melker needs to slow down and expend energy in tight. Needs to see if he can pull a team together. I know the headless chicken role very well and thought the comment earlier is has good intentions. West Brom at home was a good example.

Overall another decent perfromance and could easily have won. Well done jacks.

I would ask about Yalcouye on loan again next season. I doubt Brighton will need him in the Premier League.
He's been too inconsistent for me, I would look elsewhere. We need a revamp in midfield and out wide, so the more players we can turnover in the next window the better and that includes Yalcouye.

He was only 20 just before Christmas. He’s getting better and better and with this season under his belt I believe he’ll push on.
Other views are just as valid.

I don't think he's the answer to get more goals and assists from midfield that the team badly needs especially if we lose our top goalscorer.

Obviously I’m going to have to recalibrate what i believe is a good performance from the team, reading some of the comments on here makes me wonder if I was at the same game.

First half we made Southampton look pretty ordinary ( maybe they are) sat directly in line with the Eom penalty claim, seen them given and like today seen them turned down I do agree that Downes was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Second half was more of what we’ve seen under Matos reign, a team slowly running out of steam and allowing both our wings to be continually overloaded with cross after cross coming in.

Genuinely don’t see any game on game improvement, no structure to our game at all, as one bloke shouted behind me …headless chickens!!
Widdel shouldn’t have come out for the second half he was blowing through the proverbial with ten to go in the first, Yalcoule was decent and Idah is a far better footballer with the ball at his feet than Vip, Nunes was absolutely dreadful…again.

Listening to the Southampton fans walking back to the station they reckoned Wood was outstanding I guess that says it all really.

Lots of people pinning their hopes on next season, a simple question, where do you think we’re going to get the quality from to improve on Matos style of play and where is the budget coming from to bring those players in? Like I said in a different thread … I’m just not seeing it.

Because Soton are a big team and pushing for the 2nd automatic promotion spot including unbeaten in how many games.

If we got that pen then it's a good chance it was game over.......he bottled it.
It's clearly cheating though isn't it? There's been at least one stone wall incident not given in our favour in the last 5 or 6 games. Has to be reported now.

Said it all along. Looks a prem player on the ball all day long but doesn't have the end product

I’m very positive about Parker and Widdel being our right side next year. Eom was so much better on that side than the left but I’d prefer him at 10, under strict instructions to drive and get us up the pitch.
A lot of negativity around our centre backs, I just don’t want them on the ball as much as they are. Burgess is a 7ft rock, Ronald and Nunes are Brazilian wingers, I think the job descriptions have been mixed up.
I can't see how we accommodate widdel, Franco, stamenic, Galbraith and Walta in the same team. All of them are top half quality plus champ players (less Walta at the moment but has promise)

Nunes did his best today to make Manuel Benson look like he was a good loan signing

While he was not solely culpable for the winning goal it was his lazy stray pass that gave the ball away under little pressure that led to the run of play the goal came from, then there was his brain dead decision to attempt to nutmeg a player on the edge of our own 18 yard box.

I totally agree that bringing on Ward for Parker offered us little and if anything eliminated the pace threat on our right flank.

Also agree completely about Downes and the penalty shout. Referee today was beyond poor, several wild lunges from their players not punished with a card and several clear outs of our players not even given as free kicks.

This was one of those games that absolutely made me want to champion VAR in the Championship. Confident that both those decisions would have been given differently
We'd be very very close to the play offs with VAR. nothing will change my mind on that

Can somebody please tell me why watching the Swans is like watching Groundhog Day??!
Great in the 1st half, not a clue in the 2nd half.
Then capitulate to give the opposition the game.
Were Southampton that good?
Not really.
Were we sub standard 2nd half ?
Yes.
I’m not for one moment knocking VM, but this not playing for 90 minutes is doing my head in !
This is not a coincidence.
Is the problem not enough strength in depth?
We have to sort, or source players out next season, for this not to continue.

It's been an issue in every game under VM. I don't know what the answer/solution is as he doesn't appear to be learning

I think the first half can show what we’re about under Matos. It was the strongest performance we’ve seen against a top side this season.

I’ve said it a lot since he came in but I’m convinced Matos is only playing a style that suits the squad we have. He’s pragmatic in the sense that he won’t try and force a play style that won’t work but he will get us playing once he can shape the squad. He’s been in and around elite environments in football and will know that we won’t get anywhere without the ability to control a game.

In terms of quality, look at Coventry. They’ve not spent ridiculous amounts but have found some decent footballers, a couple have come from lower leagues even. There are ways to find good players, whether you believe we’ll employ the right people to do it is another matter.
