I don’t recall any meaningful briefing on Izhevsk Air (or Izhavia as they became known), and if there was there was no translation from Russian. The only plane I have been on where the emergency sign said ‘use rope to climb down’ and where the emergency exit looked like it had been used before. We had to stop using them in the end as their lack of licences invalidated our corporate travel insurance.

Every time I hear the words “there’s a light and a whistle for attracting attention” I expect them to then say “just in case you’re off to a rave”.

I'm a bit of an avgeek, so I'll always identify exits and where I would try to get to were the plane to crash. It takes nothing to listen for 2 minutes. The people who don't pay attention will be the first ones screaming 'where's my life jacket' as the plane lands on water.
