Their left back up against Laird was signed for £22 million by Chelsea and has 40+ caps for Ghana.

He had the measure of Laird all day.

Laird's been fine. Let's not pretend that he's been off form because of one bad game. Was only a week ago that we were all incensed because he didn't win two penalties.

Their defender had the measure of him today. It happens.

Laird in mid week was also shocking, watch the game back. Shocking and lacked confidence today.

He dives well and tries to win penalties. Yeh. He is going backwards at a rate of knots and needs to start to earn his place. Disappointing last few matches.

Very few crosses into box and rarely takes a player on. Bidwell who regularly gets slaughtered on this site, creates more. Fact.

Real headwork how that happened today. Seems the 3 game a week thing doesn't do for us. Slightly biased but really should have been 3 wins in a week. Anyone else think Laird has hit the wall ? Need him and his confidence back asap.
All said n done, was an emotional day....result irrelevant for me ( sorry guys) just nice to get back.

Worse things happen in life than in football mate.

lets be fair we did enough to win that 9 times out of 10. Williamsnot good enough - we would have won that 2-0 with cabango there.
Less said about officials the better, carroll was years off side and im not convinced piroe was offside for his goal. Starting to think there's something there more than incompetency because this is happening near enough every week

“It happens every week” if you listen to fans of most clubs, but there really is something odd about it, I can’t think of 1 50/50 decision that’s gone our way this season, and let’s not get started on the penalties we should have had. Pointless working ourselves up over it though, it’s Sunday after all 🙄🤣

Seeing a lot of comments blaming Marti's style for the loss but we scored two goals at home and kept their efforts speculative (apart from the goals). All three of their goals were down to appalling levels of defending and concentration not our passing and possession play.
Their first.
Laird stranded upfield; Bennett holding hands in the middle with Naughton and didn’t move wide until it was too late; Laird and Bennett got dummied and looked like dummies; Grimes got back and made no attempt to block the shot (even though he could; Hamer, I mean what did he think he was on the pitch for?
Goal2
Ignoring the four yards off side
Williams nowhere near Carroll (invited the long pass); Williams was too slow to catch him: Naughton and Williams failed to block despite having plenty of time.
(Should Carrol have been booked for removing the flag? No specific mention but choreographed celebrations are to be cautioned. That said FIFA expects refs to use common sense as rules are ‘interpreted’.)
Third goal
Again Williams out of position and no assistance from Manning; Naughton brushed off; Williams ambling back; Bennett gave the first strike far too much room: Laird ignored the Reading players to run to meet Hamer: Grimes and Ntcham watched; no one picked up the goalscorer!
