Season 22/23 Friendly: The Official Plymouth v Swansea Match Thread

Who was number 47 who came on? Cotterill? Thought he was an AM but seemed to be playing centre half!

Dan Williams looked very sharp we need to show some trust in these lads now.

If we trust these lads we'll get relegated, we opened like the red sea for their goal, I hope they play at a decent level, but the level they're coming from is below conference standard, even in a friendly, our spaces between CB and WB was getting exploited again and the passing without penetration was glaring.. but it was just a pre-season game.. and Darling and Woods looked decent in the air, maybe we don't have to rely solely on Cabango this season, so that's a positive.. Grimes and corners again, awful..

Trust who? Dan Williams? He had an excellent cameo. Cabango will still be one of first names on team sheet.

Players like Rodon, Roberts, James and even Oli who came through academy system are the reason we are still competitive financially in this league.

To say we can’t trust them is ridiculous. They keep us in business.

Sorry but I havnt forked out over 300 sheets for the next 8 months to watch us experiment.

Are you on about Dan Williams?

The club doesn’t spend millions on its academy to worry about one season ticket holders opinion on using a player from the academy, who to be honest has a ridiculous opinion, no offence.

The reason why can spend any money is cos of people like me who shell out hundreds every year, no matter how ridiculous the opinions are.
No offence.

Rubbish game I thought, not that it really matters, I fell asleep about 25 mins from the end and woke up just in time for their goal, which they took really well. Can’t take much away from that other than we’re probably going to be slow and laboured again, Darling likes letting the ball bounce which will give away a few chances and our forwards will need to gamble if we are to take advantage of Sarinola’s pace.

Hundreds? Yeah we are dealing in millions. You’ll need a whole lot of pasties, pints and tickets to make what the likes of Roberts and Rodon made this football club.

Would you close the academy then?

Didn’t see anything to suggest Sorinola had pace.

Maybe one will get through, if they were any good, they'd show it in training with Championship level players, James and McBurnie were brought in, Rodon and Roberts went out on loan and prospered.. but you and Jasp keep banging that give players playing at below conference standard chances and we'll get relegated, they're just footballing facts.. the goal just sums up their lack of concentration even in a friendly against a L1 team full of youth players.. thankfully Russ isn't stupid, he'll probably give one a run out sometime during the season, but they're not kids anymore 20/21.. Cullen is another who wouldn't grace the Welsh Prem at 23

We got to give these players chances because they're going to make us millions mun  .. even though academy football is Conference South standard.. how dare you have an opinion

Yeah Russ isn’t stupid. He knows we can’t afford to go throwing money around on players on ridiculous wages, like we have seen with Benno and to some extent Fulton.

To say Rodon “prospered” on loan sort of sums your thinking up. He didn’t get a game at Cheltenham and was forced into our side only after an injury crisis.

Our scouts never watch loan players mun  .. it was an injury mun, not training with first team players, if they're good enough, they'll get their chance

You've clearly missed my point, and tbh I can't be arsed to explain.

That a significant number of the youngsters we've sent out on loan haven't shone there yet come back into our first team and gone on to bigger things would seem to be a feature by now rather than a flaw.

It's not hard to envisage a young player brought up from an early age to be comfortable playing passing football looking a little lost battling against 30+ yr olds in the basement division. They're going out on loan to gain experience, not reshape their game entirely.

got back too late last night to post. Some observations, admittedly only from one game
Darling - looks very good
Wood - "ball-playing centre half" - not sure about that
Sorinola - needs a lot of work
Ogbeta - way better than Sorinola
Cullen - must have brought the wrong boots, couldn't stay upright

I know absolutely nothing about Wood, but his Wiki page suggests he got some serious pace. Any chance Martin could be looking to move him to full/wing-back? Or he is clearly a centre half and that's it?
