Season 23/24 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City v Stoke City | The EFL Championship

My Swans ratings:

Rushworth - 7
Very quiet game and didn't have to do much. Extremely lucky boy to get away with that howler, that was as close to a technicality as I have ever seen in a game.

Tymon - 8
Aggressive in the tackle and linked up well with Paterson and later with Lowe. Good performance

Darling - 8
Great defensive performance, didn't give Stoke an inch and helped keep the ball moving rather than slow the tempo

Cabango - 8
I thought that this was close to if not his best performance of the season. Playing in a 4 definitely suits him better than in a back 3 and like Darling he didn't give the Stoke attackers an inch

Key - 9
Close to back to his best after his long injury layoff. What a hit for his goal.

Grimes - 9
Sky gave him MotM and I have to agree with them. He got some pelters on here but I thought he worked hard, distributed the ball well and his penalty was unstoppable.

Fulton - 7
More involved and a better performance than in recent weeks. Kept the ball moving and was maybe unlucky to hit the post in the 6th minute or so

Cooper - 6
Might sound harsh but other than winning the penalty I don't think he really did much in the game. He ran a lot but it feels like he has gone backwards from last season.

Paterson - 8
A few moments of the bad old Paterson but most of this was the good old Paterson. He created some excellent chances and his cross for Cullen's first goal was an absolute peach.

Ronald - 7
Lots of positive running, a danger with his pace but didn't get a lot of change out of his full back. End product is normally there but was missing this game.

Cullen - 8
Super finish for his goal. One of the best one touch finishers I have seen for us since Michu. Great performance overall with some great hold up play to bring players into the game.

Lowe - 8
Great sub appearance. Everything you want when you make a change, energy and skill. His play for Key's goal was of the highest quality.

Govea - 7
Positive and won a good free kick on the edge of the box. Each appearance he is growing in confidence and expressing himself bit by bit

Abdulai - 7
As above, great appearance and the biggest compliment I can make is that I couldn't nitpick anything from his appearance.

Walsh - 7
Brought some quality and fresh legs into the top end of the midfield. We might only see him for four more match days but it was nice to see him fit.

Patino - 6
Came on too late to make any real impact.

Williams - 9
Rightfully gave the squad a very public rollicking last week and when you do that it either backfires terribly or works superbly and fortunately it was the latter. The tactics were on point, the subs were well timed and made an impact and we didn't lose momentum.

Nothing wrong with developing a Plan B, but when you simultaneously put Plan A in the bin (like Monk did) then you've got real problems. When Plan B goes tits up, you've got nothing to return to.
This is it for me. When emergency plan B becomes plan A, you’re done. In my (unreliable) memory, the day we beat Man U under Monk with one shot in the second half and about 10% possession was the day Swansea football had the stake through its heart (he killed it when he drove all the Spanish out, but that Man U game made sure the undead wouldn’t rise).

Fairy nuff

Thing is Montero was an average Premier League winger
Ronald is an average Championship winger

By default that has to make Montero better.

And both were better than Adrian Forbes 🤣 🤣

Last bit. Spot on.
And Kevin Moore, but I loved them both

Decent performance, that said Stoke are dogshit but taking nothing from us.
Nice to see us bullying them after all these years.
Safe now shirley.

They are worse than Wednesday, by some margin.

You could pick any number of games that season - the smash and grabs at Arsenal and Southampton stand out for me, but agree United was one as well - where we won games clinging on. He thought he was being clever. He wasn't. He was a charlatan.

To be fair Schumacher is hard to understand but he didn't hide from the Stoke performance with the controversial decisions.

Overall this round of fixtures has been a very good one for us.
We probably are already safe but put Rotherham to the sword on the weekend and any remaining doubts will be gone

Great to see a derby performance tonight... just goes to show we have that in us and why it goes astray LW needs to address.

Hope those Stoke fcekers go down and they can play Mansfield next season . Shite club with big ego fans.

he latter. The tactics were on point, the subs were well timed and made an impact and we didn't lose momentum.

I think he only gets picked or brought on as a sub to be 'the guy running around a lot'; it's kind of become his thing.

He doesn't really have any positional responsibilities or seem to have any real instructions aside from...running around a lot and getting in the opponents faces. That's not a terrible contribution to make in a game and he did a decent job of it tonight, but I'm not sure where he fits in to the team in a footballing sense - maybe playing behind the striker where Pato is, but I don't think he has enough quality.
