Season 23/24 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City v Stoke City | The EFL Championship

Impressive long throw that from Abdulai
That could be an interesting tool to have in the locker

You have to wonder what's happening at Stoke though. They've always had more money than us, been able to attract 'better' players, but they've ended up with a squad that makes ours look good.
They fell into the same problem as us - they became obsessed with having a "Plan B". For us, that involved becoming more of a huff and puff side, like them. For them, they thought they'd try becoming a footballing side, like us. It worked, briefly, for both sides. But both lost their identity in the process, and never really got it back.

They've fared slightly worse than us because tried using the parachute payments to go straight back up, failed badly, and are now paying for it. Fortunately, we have never really gambled like that.

They'd probably have been relegated without Szmodics. he's been outstanding
Yeah, he's good and won't be playing their next season. Tbh, they really relied on the Chilean (he's not really) and it shows.

Excellent result with almost all other results going our way over these last two nights.
For all of the Grimes bashing he was 1st on almost every metric tonight and was Sky's MotM.

There was a really good article about what's happened to them since relegation on the Athletic the other week.

Spot on about their spending and the Coates want to spend even more on players, but then they'd breach the FFP rules in this division. Some Supporters Club header in the article thought it was disgusting that clubs with money couldn't spend what they wanted (no matter how in debt they are) and that this would somehow hasten the introduction of a European Super League?

Much needed 3 points tonight. Mixed performance, but right now I’m just happy with the points

Very good post. The need of a plan B is only if you aren't good enough for plan A
The correct approach would have been to become so good at plan A that you never need a plan B

One more win mathematically guarantees safety but I don't think we will need it.

Nah we're safe, plus we have goal difference over the bottom dwellers. Can see the Owls beating them though on the weekend. Stoke are in real trouble.
