Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | FT Swansea City 1 Sheffield United 2 | The EFL Championship

I'm not sticking up for the ref, you can understand why he didn't and did give decisions.. we were naive, like we've been all season and Captain Grimes is all nicey, nicey in all he does.. the hand ball law is skewed and there is no clear definition, it's the referees interpretation of events on that particular day.. because it's not clear

He was quick with a card for our challenges but failed to show them for similar challenges made by the cheats.
They were a bunch of thugs who were pushing elbowing all game including off the ball.

Yet again our failure to convert first half chances has done us....that was the difference against QPR

Wilder spent at least half of the game on the field of play. Nothing said at all

Really poor crowd, we were all saying around 8000 inc away support.
Circus aspect aside, I thought it was a bloody awful game again. The front 4 are definitely not on the same wavelength.
Cullen a non entity again, Ronald erratic as fuck, diving like a minge. MPH is not a winger. I think Bianchini has something, he’d be my one positive.
Darling’s stinking tackle the first thing someone’s done with conviction this year.
Bianchini has an assist for their first goal. Awful bit of football by him.

Yes it wound me up the fourth official said nothing he was rarely in his technical area and at times was actually over the touch line.

I dont often agree with Skippy but in this case hes right. Regardless of how bad the ref was, and he WAS, we caused our own downfall AGAIN.
Key was playing like a drunken giraffe on rollerskates and Darling made a rash challenge and was awol for the first goal.
2nd half was entirely avoidable. Key should have been hooked at half time.
We are so brittle its worrying. Collapse always seems imminent. Theres something wrong with the team and its coming directly from the manager.
I used to find his idiosyncracies charming. Now I see them as a danger to our Championship survival.
(Playoffs? ...**snigger**)
GET RID.

As others have said we lost this game because we failed to capitalise on our first half domination, were exceptionally naive at times and - yet again - started the second half like a different team

Darling was unlucky but if that was reversed we would want a red the other way and key made a stupid challenge to make up for his own poor defending to start with

And for a whole second half , admittedly playing a man light for most of it, we failed to muster a single shot at goal either on or off target thinking our turgid brand of football would eventually break down a team that we all knew it wouldn’t break down

The first half was very good but we scored 1 from that domination and halves like that have happened less than five times in the last 12 months

we stopped using our right hand side

In fairness Sheff Utd made a tactical change at half time which as per usual Williams was unable to react to. From tearing it up in the first half MPH was effectively neutered.

I thought I might have been being a bit harsh early in his tenure when I made the occasional comparison between Williams and Martin, but the more things go on the more alike they're becoming. Tactical inflexibility. Lip service paid to youth. Players ignored, misused and then moved on. The occasional good half here, the odd good 90 minutes there, otherwise mostly tedious shit. The obvious desire to use us as a stepping stone.

The reality is that nothing good is likely to come from dragging things out.

I said at HT that our missed chances in the first half would probably bite us.
The ref was poor and did affect the game but our loss was not solely down to him.
Our failings were still there to be seen but it was more 'enjoyable' to see a higher tempo than normal.
I still think the Darling red was a yellow as Brewster was already going down making it look worse. In saying that Darling has it in his locker and does commit similar when not needed.
One observation did Key and Tymon play less into a midfield role?

At least for now there is hope that we can play at a higher tempo, but it won't guarantee results

The main thing that baffled me last night was the substitutions (and lack of them).

Darling was sent off in the 50th minute and Williams waited 10 minutes before making a change. Even then, sacrificing our main goalscorer was a negative move (I thought it would be one from Bianchini, Ronald or Peart-Harris).

I didn't understand why Naughton was played at RB with Key at CB, especially when Key lost the flight of the ball and gave away the penalty.

The only other substitution was Parker for Peart-Harris after 87 minutes.

We also had Allen, Fulton, Eom, Ginnelly and Vipotnik on the bench, why didn't Williams bring any of them on to offer fresh legs in the second half? He could have used three of those to bring more energy and an out ball to get the ball up the other end of the pitch, maybe even muster a shot of some kind!

I missed that change, but yes you’re right. Williams is very inflexible in his approach.

I've clocked this twice, the away team enter the stadium 'in the zone', focused and ready for business. Then our lot walk in like they've just been dropped off by a taxi at the bottom of Wind St
Absolutely no accountability or leadership from the manager and his coaching team.
