You cannot take away the win today nor him stepping up to the role. I think he comes across well, but for me today tactics alongside some of the odd performances, this guy is not the person to take this club forward.

We need fresh ideas and get some players out and someone who brings excitement to our play. Today was like watching Cooper ball. Boring slow, and nearly sent me to sleep. But we got the result. Pretty much what Cooper did.

Now you could argue that's the most important thing. Yes, of course, but we want to be entertained not bored. Get someone in who wants a team that does not have Christie, Naughton, Fulton and Few Others.

Harsh on Naughts! He did ok today I thought.

He was as involved as Cullen lol

Today was a hard watch, but I think Sheehan has done enough to be in serious consideration. At least he acknowledges the style was crap, but needs must. He comes across as more genuine than the last few chancers and is honest about us and the games. I can’t say I’d look forward to watching that type of football all next season, but we’ve played better under him. So why not. I don’t trust us to unearth a top coach from somewhere, so why not give him a go.

I'm intrigued as to what the plan was leading up to and immediately after sacking Williams (besides putting Sheehan in temporary charge). Did we have a replacement in mind but turned us down? Did we approach anyone?

Then the international break comes and goes and still no appointment. Besides, Sheehan appointment until end of season. Did we approach people up to this point but again no one would come? Or were they under the impression they'd get who they wanted but they you-turned leading to the Sheehan until end of season announcement? There's also rumours we've interviewed candidates - did they not impress?

Or do we have someone in place but will only join when we're confirmed to be in the Championship next season? If so Sheehan doesn't seem to have been told this.

Or do we not have a fucking clue who were going to appoint?

whilst seeing your point and i repect your opinion, i have said it elsewhere this squad is a not good enough and b not big enough in quality, for me Mr Sheean has got the lads working as a team and his position today is to ensure we do not go down, that is his first job, the game yesterday was a poor specticle but we won that was his aim win the game, he said it would be a dog fight and it was , whilst not saying he should or should not be the next boss i think he is doing a more than fine job with what he has at his disposal

Sheehan has only ever been a stop-gap and rightly so. The only reason he’d be in contention is if he somehow miraculously got us into the playoffs.

We’re a Championship side ffs. We can do better.

Exactly, that isn't his "style", he set us up that way to win, and we did

Yep. And as I said, we’ve had much better matches under him than yesterday. I’m very much on the fence though. He’s probably earned the right to have a crack at the job, but I’m not sure he’s got a defined style that will keep people happy or provide much of a platform to build on.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself thinking about building on anything. We’ve got to salvage something before we can start to look upwards.

Whoever they get, I still think the lack of experience and funds will limit what we can do. We need to hope that Montague is a visionary, has excellent judgement and a top work ethic, and also has brilliant contacts that can secure us some good players on the cheap. He seems to be the only one with the likely knowledge to be able to pull the club around. There’s a lot resting on his shoulders.

What is his style?

I have seen a few different styles under his tenure. I was impressed with the Boro game but we haven't seen that style since.....and I would agree that it's down to not having the quality in the squad to be confident to play it regularly.

I think playing like we did yesterday just covers over the cracks, if there is no quality in the squad it goes wrong in time.....it works in small periods but over a season with no quality tends to go bad.

If rumours are to be believed, Sheehan is held in very high regard within the game as a coach, and I have no problem believing that. In short order he has demonstrated a good understanding of what Luke Williams was doing wrong and how to put that right.

The question remains however is whether or not good coaching ability translates into good managerial ability over the long term. A prime example of when it hasn't was Paul Clement. A talented enough coach for Carlo Ancelotti to keep him around for years (and also engineer a reasonable turnaround after replacing a terrible manager), but never able to step up and deliver success himself.

Ultimately I still think that we really need someone with a lot more experience and preferably a track record of achievement behind him after appointing three relative novices in a row. Can't shake the feeling that Sheehan may just turn out to be more of the same in time.

A branch off from the managerial appointment and we don't give it to Sheehan...what happens for him and us from there?

Do we keep him in a coaching role despite him not getting a job that he likely wanted!? He seems to be close to the players and will he have a sense of hard done by and continue his coaching role with us and accept the new manager?
Of course a new manager will likely want his own backroom staff and will a new manager be happy being told that he has to keep certain people on board.

Some big and tough decisions to be made or keep it easy with no altercations.

Good points. Though I do feel having VP starting and Cullen up front was a mistake. Also having Fulton starting was wrong. I don't think this team is amazing but coaching wise they can and could get better. The team still has alot of Williams feel to it, be that we don't pass back as much, but fresh start is needed.

Great observation. I do have a feeling like you said it will end up like many others. I know it's 1 game, and we won, but I didn't like how negative we was in playing and our tactics. Again, I know circumstances and all of that. It's a difficult one to call. But I think we need someone who has experience, yesterday showed me more bad than good.
