SHEEHAN SACKED

I'm yet to be convinced this was the right decision - only time will tell on that - but one thing that is encouraging is the timing. The club using the last international break of the year to do it gets us on the front foot in terms of having a new man in place by the time of the next game. They have been decisive in that sense.

Under the previous regime, it would probably have been a case of dilly dally for a few more weeks, and end up sacking him anyway as we go into the most congested period of the season, making it that bit harder for the new bloke. We have likely avoided that now.
Maybe they still believe the play offs are within reach, so they've decided to act swiftly instead of waiting until Christmas where it wouldn't be attainable

Realistically how many of our squad would get a move to a premier League club?
Vigoroux would probably be a fine GK for someone like Brighton or Bournemouth, or a very reliable backup keeper for one of the top clubs.

Galbraith has potential to be a PL player if he carries on at his current rate, but not sure anyone would have a punt on him right now.

And that, sorry to say, is about it really.

We'll have a bit of a bounce first where the opposite will be true and everyone can say it was clearly Sheehan to blame and not the players.

Although I suspect that will be reversed in 6 months time.

The fact is we are probably an average championship team with average championship players.

Bloody hell, nobody is suggesting we have premier league quality players in the squad, you don’t need them to be competitive in the Championship…honestly!!!

Shame to see it not work out.

Seems a very decent man and some comments in twitter are indicative of us having some really scummy fans.

Anyway, next.

Seems to me it could go one of two ways:

- appoint a head coach in the usual way
- bring someone in who’s a ‘big name’ with a percentage ownership of the club as part of the deal…
I like that second idea !

There were a few shouts for Inoussa already being an Elite Championship wide player when this was discussed last week. This weekends performance was not on any one player and certainly not Inoussa, but I suspect it was a Come to Jesus moment for a lot of fans about the reality of the squad.

How many truly premier league players are there in the championship at any given time? 10-20? Outside of that you have players who could possible do a job as a backup here and there but not many who could go and start consistently.

You don't need to have a squad of premier league players to not be the worst attack in the league. Just look at the current top 6 for example.

It’s certainly interesting I don’t know how that could really work in practice but it’s definitely interesting.

You’d probably have to structure something like that based on a performance related angle.

Almost like a clean sheet bonus. Any additional revenue they would get a cut of that.

Very clever thinking though I like it. But for that to work it would definitely need to be remunerated via share options or other streams through success so that getting promotion is individually lucrative.

With a few of the top teams in the Championship looking for a new manager, what of calibre one can we hope for ?
I would love us to recruit a been there done it in The Championship, type manager.
But can we afford one?
This next appointment will be a real insight into the mentality of The Top Table’s realistic ambitions.
My huge worry is if they bollocks this one up, will they circle the wagons, and ride into the sunset, and think we’ve got bigger fish to fry.

I don't know the exact figures for wages but surely with 3 managers recently sacked and paid off couldn't we have used that money to get one for quality manager that we can keep?

It quite genuinely wouldn’t surprise me…

Can we afford not to?

I’ll repeat.

It’s FAR more costly to overhaul your squad every year, pay compensation. Then you have the opportunity costs of missed gate receipts, television revenue etc.

We have to stop viewing an appointment as a high cost. We should look at it through a ROI.

Bad timing on the sacking considering who else is looking for a gaffer.

Needed to be done though !

The playoffs are still in reach in the same way that Susanna Hoffs has always been in reach for me.

I think we may have gone too early on this. We weren’t far off bar a few poor results lately. It was just that final third that was the problem until Sheehan had a brain fart with playing 3 CBs. I’d be surprised if anyone else can get this squad firing in goals, but we’ll see. And I’m also surprised at how quickly it unraveled.
