Should the UK pay Commonwealth slavery reparations

It’s a no from me. We can’t rewrite history and our foreign aid policies have gone some way to mitigate the decisions of yesteryear. How much and how to would be two questions which would bog Westminster down, at times when there are bigger priorities on our own soil.

Pointless viewing; two people shouting over each other and both failing to put the point across.
I thought the same, had no idea what point was trying to be made after about 40 odd seconds apart from two people squabbling with each other.

Look out, the forums delicate little wallflower has sprouted up for five minutes again.

Please nobody challenge anything he says or else we won’t be able to move for strewn toys again.
It’s called time darling. I don’t have much of it to spend on here. You clearly do,

Most of that money never left London.

We stole their lands, killed tens of thousands of them, enslaved Africans to work those lands to reap the profits.

I’ll admit it’s not straight forward, and I have no idea how to do it fairly. But to say we paid them to get the abolishment done is extremely insulting to those people.

"We" enslaved no-one. It was the Africans that enslaved them. The Arabian slave trade was bigger than the North American slave trade, over a much longer time period, through to the 20th Century.

The Portuguese started the transportation of slaves.

Which part do you believe to be wrong, so I can educate you.

Slavery has always been wrong, how about we put more effort to end modern slavery which I have read there are more today then any part of history.

You appeared to have no knowledge of what I wrote, so therefore you have no idea. Nothing I wrote was incorrect, so it appears you do need educating.

Let me put you at ease, if your education revolves around your first post, I’ll go to my 6 year old grandson, for my education.

By the way, if you need help with the quote function, let me know and I’ll educate you.

Us Baglan boys are educated.

Just to expand on the post Neath_Jack scoffed at.

1. "We" enslaved no-one. It was the Africans that enslaved them.

This is true. When the good old Pope decided to give the world to Spain and Portugal, drawing a line and giving the West of the line to Spain and East to Portugal. The Countries renegotiated the line between themselves, moving it further West, resulting in Portugal getting a bit of the New World (Brazil). Portugal started navigating a route East, circumnavigating Africa, travelling further each year, until finally getting around.

The Portuguese were surprised to find Cities in Africa en-route and set up trading posts, some becoming slaving fortresses years later. They looked for trade and amongst other things were offered slaves. They took some back to Portugal to exhibit. Slavery was ripe in Africa, although the slave conditions were not as harsh as the ones taken to Colonies, although some were sacrificed.

Later on the Portuguese started supplying their colonies and Spains with slaves, later British colonies became customers.

Britain took over the slave routes at the start of the 18th Century as part of a treaty after a war that Britain won.

Europeans never went into the jungles catching slaves, they only bought them at coastal Cities. The Africans enslaved them. When Britain outlawed slavery the African kings would not stop selling them as they made too much money.

2. The Arabian slave trade was bigger than the North American slave trade, over a much longer time period, through to the 20th Century.

Look up the Indian Ocean Slave Trade, where slaving started about 2000BC and never stopped until around the 1960's. Mainly taken to the Arabian Counties. Their conditions were harsh and the men castrated so they couldn't breed.

3. The Portuguese started the transportation of slaves.

See 1.

Slavery was accepted since biblical times, its still ripe today. Do we look to Italy because of the slaves Rome took or Norway/Denmark because of the Vikings? What about the Mongolians, Greeks, Egyptians?

All of Europe was colonizing, none are clean in history, but it is history. Stop modern day slavery, put some effort into that.
