'Speeding in a 20mph zone'

What’s happening on the old Kings site in the Bont Bryn?

Seems to be completely empty.

As somebody who has been done for 37 in a 30 limit and done the awareness course , I do now check my speed , sadly there are awful and manic drivers out there , frightening to think are they unfit to drive .

Also , when will mobile phone drivers , totally ignorant and with a I dont care attitude , stop texting or talking whist driving .

Can this offence be made as serious as drink/drugs driving , roads are a nightmare these days .

The Coop were going in there. All the staff have been recruited but the opening has been delayed. No reason has been given. There has been speculation that the Co-op has been underperforming financially and that they might just pull out. The latest rumour is that they will be opening sometime in August.

If they do pull out, and the building remains vacant, then Bont will be tamping, as they pulled down our lovely old King Hotel boozer for it.

We regularly laugh about the experiences of a guy in work.

His wife called him one day asking for him to rush back at lunchtime as his nipper had left a toy in the back of the car and was playing up at home. He only lived half a mile up the road so rushed out and got booked by a mobile camera sat in the lay-by. One returned toy and a quick sandwich later he rushes back to work and got booked by the same van but from the opposite direction.

Where's good for lunch on a Saturday in Pontardallas Bryn?

Sorry for delay in responding Dicko...

The Black Horse recently reopened under new management and seems OK; I haven't tried the Farmers Arms since the newcomers took over, but I've heard some negative views about the place....The Fountain food is very nice, but at a price.....and there is the Bird in Hand up in The Fforest and The Wheat Sheaf opposite Happy Shopper

We also have Sullivans coffee shop and The Cafe on St Teilo's St...., also on St Teilos there's a posh vegetarian deli opened recently opposite St Michael's Church.

If you don't mind going a bit posh, then The Fountain is probably the best place to go..(but I am really annoyed with the place as they will only serve alcohol to diners. It used to be a great little boozer with a long history, including during the Rebeca Riots, but the food has completely taken over.

Rasoi Indian Kitchen is nice, on the site of the old Glamorgan Arms, between the Bont and Pontlliw, but it is only open on a Sunday afternoon.

In Alberta we have 30km/h zones around schools and parks.

30km/h = 18.6mph

Oh the Glamorgan Arms...just had a serious stab of nostalgia. Few pints, chicken in the basket and a decent music act. Bring back 1975.

As to the Farmers...the Hills have Eyes

Or just pay attention to your speed, it could save a pedestrians life.
Yep, absolutely. It was introduced to try and save lives and life changing injuries (with the added benefit of easing pressure on the NHS, although that’s far less important than stopping someone being killed of course).

It’s early days, but as an update to this thread the signs are encouraging with deaths and serious injuries dropping by nearly a quarter in the first 3 months after the new limit was introduced- https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cydvr2rnm4ro.

That’s got to be worth slowing down for (not that you can average 20mph in Swansea very often with all the traffic lights and cameras, so it’s all a bit moot anyway).

I have a feeling that the most recent stats are going to show an increase as there have been quite a few accidents and serious incidents just in Swansea. In fact, two in Mumbles in the last couple of months.

We probably need a couple of years of data before drawing any firm conclusions, but encouraging nonetheless. To be lower than during the Covid lockdown years seems impressive on the face of it.

Some poor sod passed away in Pennard this week when his car went off the road. Keep safe people.

Yep, I wasnt including that one.

I don't want to be hypocritical. I am not an advocate of a blanket 20 mph speed limit but I do agree, completely, there is a need for the limit on specific roads and areas.
Speed kills. Bad drivers kill
