You make a valid point. I would have preferred to see only the data on roads which have gone from 30 to 20 mph, that would be more telling as to the success of the scheme, it's rather pointless to include other roads as this skews the data. I dont see how anyone can argue otherwise.

That's all they needed to show, was the statistics from all roads reduced from 30 to 20, and what was the reduction in accidents I must say, it does look pretty dodgy, when they try to blind people by science, where in fact it's pretty simple to do...

Edit: And just to add one more thing, these stats they have come up with are utter nonsense, and be honest here, in the Swansea area, how many people you are travelling behind are doing 30 in a 20, honestly apart from learners, I would say 98% plus are still doing 30 in a new 20 zone. The WAG most probably spent a good few hundred thousand on these pathetic stats, and people all over are tearing them to shreds already. Don't forget these accident, are declining on a yearly basis anyway, without taking into other factors. We do not need GASLIGHTING BS from the WAG or Wales Online.

It is impossible to determine the positive impact of 20 mph speed limits on these statistics. This is no different to not being able to see how ADAS, air bag technology, redesign of bumper mechanisms and crumple zones, enhanced pedestrian areas, traffic calming measures in accident hot spots, road safety awareness initiatives, the rise in black box insurance policies, and so on influence the stats. The downward trend of the last ten years is the sum of all of these. Concerning the 20mph topic, political point scoring is inevitable.

Just going through some data, I can see that the reduction of fatalities on roads which have been reduced from 30 to 20 mph has reduced in 2024 Q3 fatalities reduced from 2 to 1 and in 2023 Q3 from 3 to 2, which is tremendous. Other data on serious or slight injuries is less impressive, and from what I can see, it quite disappointing.The caveat to all the figures is that not all accidents are reported to the police.
