Russell Martin was clearly a man feeling the pressure after the heavy 4-0 loss at Sheffield United on the weekend, with an uncharacteristic display of his frustration at the way things have been going as of late. In his post match press conference, he responded to a pretty normal question in a different...

Yes, the players are probably absolutely clear that what they are being asked to do is beyond them and not working. Plus the whole idea of walking football facing backwards is a bit rubbish anyway and they probably don't believe in it. But what the hell, keep insisting they do it anyway.

That really wasn't the question to ask him. It was 'are you really going to persist with this nonsense when the opposition laugh at you and you get battered?'. Answer that, Mr Spiky.

He doesn't seem a happy bunny and the team don't seem it either tbh

My mate works with the club and he says everytime he sees Martin he just looks really stressed all the time

Martin made some valid points, it was men against boys at Bramall Lane and we was massively out of our depth from the first minute. Both Sharp and MGW run us ragged but the amount of times our players can't read a pass, no pace to compete in a back 3 and more worrying no heart to put in any meaningful challenges was quite alarming. Surely we can't repeat that attitude against Bournemouth.

Along with all that also not doing what comes naturally but taking a couple of seconds to think of what they have been asked to do.

Totally agree... also i think we need a back 3 that can comfortably play this system with the ability to pass under pressure and the physicality and pace to defend a recover loss possession. We could be talking prem player standard here but unless we sort this defence out we will not improve and build on that.

Not all sides have Sharp and MGW quality backed up by a lot of experience.

What Martin may need to develop is a Laudrup type approach of 16 high quality well paid players who are happy palying thiis style backed up by under 23s if injuries occur who play the same system.

Cooper relied heavily on Ayew and Lowe without whom he would have been bottom half. As it was we always felt touch and go to be in the top 6.

One key thing is that Ntcham is not performing on the same level as Gibbs White.

It may be a good idea to give Wolf a centre midfield role to see if we can get on the front foot and create more chances or mistakes in the opposition's defence.

We didn't get close to making Sheffield uncomfortable though we can learn to defend with 4 at the back away from home.
