Stamenic

I still maintain that we'd be more fluid with an AM in the setup, just not Cullen.
Yes, but I get the feeling Sheehan is still trying to convince himself on this. It's like he can't quite bring himself to depart from the workmanlike flat 3. If he's going to do it he needs to go all in and do it properly, or don't do it all.

Otherwise you just get what we got yesterday, a fudged version of it, with Cullen as a total passenger.

Idah is less static than Vip (which isn’t a criticism)

I don't see that at all to be honest, especially not this season. Vipi's been all over the park. Came into midfield numerous times yesterday to try and link stuff up, perhaps a bit too much as when the ball broke he had to sprint like buggery to get into the penalty area.

Idah seems more likely to stay up top.

The worry is that he'll take the loss yesterday as a sign that it won't work, not that he picked the wrong players to do it.

If he persists with Cullen as a starter anywhere on the pitch, it’ll be a mistake. I thought Cullen as starting AM would be better than no AM, but I think I was kidding myself. I don’t know where Cullen can play…he has a goal or assist in him every now and again, but that’s not enough to move us forward significantly. When he has no time to think he’s a good finisher. Maybe chasing the game with ‘all the meat on the barbecue’.

Widell is a real worry. He was bought as a first team player, whatever the PR spin being pedalled and repeated. He’s either on the naughty step or not rated. We have so many players now that could do with a good run in the team to see if they fit, it must be a headache, as we also need a settled side. That isn’t actually ‘a nice problem to have’.

Thm
Williams was doing absolutely fine until Christmas last year. If we’re in a similar position again then we’ll be solidly in mid table and that would be completely acceptable. We probably wouldn’t be a very exciting season, but not something to be turfing the manager out for.
Our owners may not see things that way

I must admit that flashed through my mind yesterday. Having so many options now isn't always a good thing. Although, once again, it's worth reflecting we're only 9 games in, and I'm sure by November Sheehan will have settled on what his preferred XI is. Might still be a bit chop and change for a few weeks yet though.

I do quite miss the days when I could basically name the whole team and there was only one sub. Squads, my arse.

I remember those days. Even those when the sub could only come on if someone’s leg was hanging off.
Tactical substitution? You’re having a laugh.

What amazes me is out of yesterdays starting line up 9 of the players were ones he had during his spell that secured him the full time job yet at rimes we looked shapeless and clueless
He had the opportunity of a good preseason Stamenic ,Youlcaye and Idah late additions the others arriving early but his use of the preseason friendlies baffled me.
He has bsen with us long enough to know Cullens limitations , we also looked a different side when Gailbraith came on.

That's fair enough. Having two decent strikers in the squad is a nice problem to have though

I can certainly see why he's taking some stick, but I'm still in the 'Stamenic is not the problem' camp, at least for now.

Mixed bag, but generally positive for me, and it's still early days. I don't think we have anyone else with the positional solidity to play that role. Galbraith, Franco, Yalcouye all love to get around the pitch, if we didn't have someone back there you can rely on to be where he's supposed to be, I think we'd notice pretty quickly, and not in a good way.
