Summer Transfer Window

If top Portuguese league is 7th, that does explain why Franco's done so well for us, as there is less of a gap in standards with the Championship
Why are so many of us getting wound up about Harry Darling?
His agent turned down offers since HD decided to leave last year
In fairness, he's put a decent shift in last season
I think we can replace with someone as good but cheaper
So goodbye and good luck ( with Rangers?)

Would you say that Josh Key isn't good enough to play in the Championship or our keeper Vigoroux who made his name in lower league football. Franco has taken to the Championship extremely well but the same can not be said about Bianchini.
Take a look at Wrexham's players during the last three seasons where quality non-league and League two players have impressed.
Football has always been about top clubs taking the chance in signing lower league footballers, going far back as Tony Book, Jamie Vardy(who, if you can believe the rumour about Huw Jenkins being unwilling to pay the fee Fleetwood wanted, while another example is Ethan Ampadu who once again was rumoured we weren't prepared to pay the £150k Exeter wanted shortly before he made his league debut before the age of 16 for Exeter.
An enormous amount of cash is being hemorrhaged out of the game by third parties with no ties to clubs and only to making money for themselves whilst the manner in which they talk would be akin to attempting to reinvent the wheel. Fortunately, there are still many astute football people in the game who recognise the talent that can be elevated to Premier League standard.

Think the point being made is, if you fill your team with players from League One and League Two, you'll end up playing in League One or Two. If your bringing lower league players in, because you feel they can play at a higher level, you need higher level players in the team to help them achieve that potential. So you don't sign more than one or two with potential as each will be a risk. For each Vardy, Book and Ampadu, there's probably 10 that don't make it.

Mostly when you sign lower league payers, they are young players with room to develop and maybe sell on at a profit or hopefully grow to help us get promotion. You don't often see an older player brought from the lower leagues, especially one that has never played above the 3rd level.

I remember Paulo Sousa declaring the Championship was the 5th best league in the world when he was here. Can't remember if he clarified that. but I assumed he meant EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Championship (first 4 can be ordered how you like).
Would swap bundesliga for league 1

If we're to avoid repeating the mistake with Darling we should be prioritising getting Tymon and Key to extend, both having just a year left on their contracts. Yet I haven't heard anything about this. Tymon in particular needs to be tied down asap.

Bellamy is in record as saying that the Championship is the 5th most intense league in the world. There's a big drop off to League one level hence Bellamy's reluctance to draft in the likes of Will Evans, who may well be better than Harris.

Welsh team has always struggled to fill the matchday squad with starting premier league players
Usually possible with PL plus Championship
League 1 players getting in the squad means we have a serious shortage somewhere eg Josh Sheehan because of MF shortages Allen Ramsey Morrell
No shortage in Will Evans wide or second striker roles so he's not getting called up

Will Evans is a 9, the only alternatives are an ageing Moore and Harris, who has a poor Championship record. Evans will need a Championship move (Preston linked recently) to get selected ahead of Harris.

Harry Darling is 26 in a couple of months. He is and has been a good player for Swansea. I have my view on his ability. I don't like players who can't just be honest and say it like it is, agent or no agent. He fits in to the current set up and it is great to see him on the pitch but if we have ambitions ourselves we need better.

Personally I cannot blame Darling for wanting to see financially what is out there and looking for a big pay day. Maybe he would of signed a year ago, but as soon as his contract started counting down last season in the last year, and in his eyes being disrespected with the lower contract offer, and the crazy world of Williams, he clearly had his head turned. Can't fault him and also he didn't down tools. Though my only issue has been that he has allowed this to drag on, he should of, informed the club - early doors so we could get someone in earlier. I rate Darling but he is replaceable and to be fair, I'm suprised he hasn't resigned considering Sheehan and Modric being his idol and the upturn in the team. Maybe he just wants to test himself at another club? I have feeling he is heading to Scotland now. I can't see what benefits he would get going to Norwich other than links with knowing people and also closer to home and Wrexham is purely for the fame buzz.

Darling gone according to forum. No new players in until players sold due to financial constraints
Just reading this post.

Were you at the forum or just picking up from someone else regards the financial constraints?

I wasn't there myself and hearing the lines from last night secondhand.
Can only pass on what I was told and they are actively looking for new recruits and financially there is no worries although they will need to shift players on but getting players in isn't based exclusively on players leaving first.

Darling is all but gone but there is still a tiny bit of hope but realistically it's unlikely.
Club are willing to go further on fee they paid for Inoussa but the outlay will be spread out over a longer term.....this enables us to be more competitive.

Targeting a centre half, midfielder and possibly striker for first team duty and willing to spend on those positions heavily if they believe the player justified it. Don't ask me what heavily would mean regards fee.
Other areas will be for competition etc and will need to be more shrewd on business in these areas.

Strange that there has been no report on last night with some info. Wasn't expecting a stream but at least some sites reporting what was said.

For those amongst our football fraternity is it possible that some fail to recognise the stark reality that because of our limited financial resources the lower leagues have become our recruitment source, in this country or in Europe and Korea.

Ready made Championship quality talent is financially out of our reach unless we sell a player or two – Franco – or our owners pump in more cash, or our non-matchday income is addressed to the same extent as to what Wrexham are currently achieving.

One of the most astute talent spotters of his era was Frankie Burrows and I would like to think that he would be in his element in the modern game where the drop out percentage has increased dramatically as has the increasing number of scholars that have walked away from signing contracts in British football, in preference to taking on contracts with clubs in Europe.

Premier League chiefs AXE little-known broadcasting blackout rule ahead of next season in major change for football fans | Daily Mail Online

Next season will see Premier League clubs have their U21 matches screened live at the same time as first team matches.

One can’t put their head in the sand at the impact that analytics are making in sport and while many clubs have become totally reliant on this mode of recruiting surely it is folly for a club like ours to ignore the second or third tiers of the game in the UK or in Europe.

What other way can clubs - not only the Swans but also others that are run prudently - are able to compete in the modern game and the demanding area that is so important for clubs – player recruitment.

One of our biggest downfalls is we are not progressing our young players into first team players. The vast amount that have been through our youth set up sadly don't even make EFL players never mind ones we could sell on for big money.
