Summer Transfer Window

Darling gone according to forum. No new players in until players sold due to financial constraints
Swansea Independent:

Someone has mentioned that the Swans need to sell before they can buy. That’s really not accurate at all. Not only with what the club have signed so far, Widell, Inoussa, Santos and Wales but they are in for more. Thing is yes, every club wants to move on players like Yates and Mykola, even Fulton to an extent, that’s obviously good business.

But Profit and Sustainability isn’t a threat, it’s there any they are aware, but it’s not affecting transfers this and next month.

Apparently it’s been said at the forum this evening that we have to shift some players as we are close to PSR limits. That’s the suggestion on Twitter anyway, nobody seems to have done any live updates from the forum this time.
This is from Swans Independent

We need Derby and Hibs to get their cheque books out sharpish.. we have reduced the wage bill with out of contract players but we still have Toe, Bianchini, Fulton. Fisher and possibly Cooper to work out their worth next season

That ignores the fact that many of our foreign recruits were playing at League One level, or lower Championship at best (Eom, Widell, Inoussa). Recruiting from the Championship or PL is very expensive, and can only apply to a select few. The real value is to be found in the lower leagues and smaller foreign leagues.
According to Global Football Rankings, League 1 is the 53rd ranked league in the world.

Our recent foreign recruits have come from the following leagues

Danish League is 13th
K-League is 20th
Swedish League is 28th
Ligue 2 france is 30th
Portuguese 1st Divsion is 7th

For reference the Championship is ranked 11th

I'm not saying there isn't value in the EFL lower leagues but like any signing the due diligence needs to be done because many players struggle to step up to the championship.

Load of rubbish - there aren't 10 better leagues than the champ

He has been gone for a while, I think I posted over 2 months ago that he was fuming with the Cabango contract situation and the lack of movement from the club to his contract. Unless something massively changed in that time it wasn't going to alter his decision.

Shame though as he did like living in the area, got to chalk this one up to stupidity on the old regime and hope lessons have been learnt so we aren't losing assets (and valuable ones at that) for free in the future.

Hibs have made an enquiry to Swansea City to bring Mykola Kukharevych back to the club, exploring loan & permanent options - Mykola has one year left on his contract with SCFC.

Myko very keen on third Hibs spell as he feels “fully adapted” to the team and loves the fans.

Good points. However it's worth noting that the league rankings are average across all teams in the league. So 24 team Championship and League One is rated lower than the 12 team Danish top flight because you're not comparing like for like.

Another loan would just cap how bad a signing he is.. we need to off load with a transfer fee albeit reduced. Same with Yates, damage limitation once again..

The thing is though, something did massively change. The ‘new regime’ did everything they possibly could to persuade him how valued he was and that he should stay.

If he goes, which seems obvious now, it’s because he wants more money. That’s fine by the way, it’s his job, but the whole ‘liked living in the area’ is such nonsense. He’ll like living anywhere that pays him. So far, he’s fancied living in Birmingham, Norwich and Glasgow.

As I’ve said before, I think he’s a good player at this level, sometimes very good, but we’ve lost a lot better over the years. This has been the most tedious saga, it really has.

Appreciate it's not a 100% like for like comparison (it was just a quick google to be fair), however it reinforces my opinion that the quality in League 1 isn't great and most (not all) players at level are playing at the correct level.

Yes some always can step up but I feel it's a risky recruitment strategy to be fishing at that level.

I think the jump to the championship is massive much like the jump to the Premier League is massive (and getting bigger) whereas the difference between L1 & L2 (even the conference) isn't too big

The way I see these European Leagues like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, France.... is that whilst the overall quality isn't maybe that great the best young players those countries will be starting off in the teams in those divisons.

Whereas in England these youngsters are stashed away (and loaned out) in the Premier League acadamies rather than plying their trade in L1.

I remember Paulo Sousa declaring the Championship was the 5th best league in the world when he was here. Can't remember if he clarified that. but I assumed he meant EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Championship (first 4 can be ordered how you like).

Would you say that Josh Key isn't good enough to play in the Championship or our keeper Vigoroux who made his name in lower league football. Franco has taken to the Championship extremely well but the same can not be said about Bianchini.
Take a look at Wrexham's players during the last three seasons where quality non-league and League two players have impressed.
Football has always been about top clubs taking the chance in signing lower league footballers, going far back as Tony Book, Jamie Vardy(who, if you can believe the rumour about Huw Jenkins being unwilling to pay the fee Fleetwood wanted, while another example is Ethan Ampadu who once again was rumoured we weren't prepared to pay the £150k Exeter wanted shortly before he made his league debut before the age of 16 for Exeter.
An enormous amount of cash is being hemorrhaged out of the game by third parties with no ties to clubs and only to making money for themselves whilst the manner in which they talk would be akin to attempting to reinvent the wheel. Fortunately, there are still many astute football people in the game who recognise the talent that can be elevated to Premier League standard.
