Summer Transfer Window

Can't say that the suggestion that we sign Matty Pearson is an attractive one. Decent defender, but doesn't have a ball playing profile. Pedersen mark 2.
We weren't suggesting signing Matty Pearson, we were saying that an older and more experienced head would be a good compliment to what is a very young defence and midfield. There are times when its all hands to the pump and having that streetwise old dog who knows all the tricks can make all the difference.

I don't disagree with that assessment, I would just hope that we could recruit someone with stronger footballing credentials.

To use an old but lazy comparison, Garry Monk was not much of a footballer and by the time his Premier League days were on him he had lost almost all of his pace. What he did have though was streetwiseness, phenomenal positional sense and an uncanny knack to recognize danger which in many ways made him the perfect foil to Ash who was everything he was not.

Just a thought. If we get a quality striker, a number 10 and rebuild our defence then I see no reason why we cannot be aiming for at least top 6 next season. In my view we need to.

1. Quality Defense Backup - Cabango

2. Replacement If Darling Goes and Quality Back Up

3. New Player to Compete with Key

4. New Player to Compete with Tymon

5. Number 10

6. Fulton and Allen Replacement

7. New Striker

8. Quality Goal Keeper Back Up

9. Wing Players to Compete Ronald and Eom

That's one hell of a list.

Also clear out few players. Fulton, possibly Cullen, TJoe, Yates, etc.

In regards to numbers 3 and 4 then I would say we would only need one new full back, I would then promote Arthur Parker to the first team squad where he can serve as understudy. He is also able to play both left and right back

In regards to point 5 - Number 10 is where Widell is largely anticipated to play and I suspect Eom will also offer competition there

Agree on point 6

Point 7 is where it is expected that Bobby Wales will offer competition

Point 8 it depends on how much we value Fisher as a back up keeper to Vigs

Point 9 it seems is currently being addressed, we have Parker to offer competition on the right and Inoussa if we are paying 5m for him as rumoured will surely be aimed to be played on the left

1, 3 and 4 can be done by 1 player as Naughton did this year
8. GK's rarely get injured so Fish or Margetson will do.
6. Fulton isnt going anywhere. Sheehan has used him a lot. Widell incoming
9. Wales already signed precontract. Inoussa who knows if coming

So that leaves 2, 5 and 7.
That shortens the list a lot

Firstly, I don't think Sheehan plays a 10. He seems to like a holder with 2 all action midfielders ahead.

Defensively we need more numbers in. We certainly need a centre half or 2 if Darling goes.
I think we need a full back to cover/push both Key and Tymon. A full back capable of covering both sides would be ideal.

Fisher 1 year left. He will go I expect. I wouldn't hang my hat on gk not getting injured. I get your other points. But if we really want to compete we have to be doing more than relying on 1 player covering 3 points I made.

Thats largely because right now we don't HAVE a 10 :D

Agree that defensively we need significant reinforcements, at least one centre half - more if Darling leaves and thats not counting fullback cover.

Do we need another RB.. with Naughton gone I'm also not convinced on Key especially defending.
Key, defensive is shocking. He has improved his crazy giving away, but yesterday he had a few hiccups. I want him to step up, but not convinced.

I am old school. I do not believe in having 2 good players in every position. With limited funds I think utility players, who come in on injuries, or challenging schedules. For me 2 GOOD players in every position belongs with the top teams playing 60 games a season in europe and bags of money to spend.

Agree pretty much 100 per cent. However I'd be surprised if Wales is more than a bench option. If Yates and Kukharevych leave we will need a decent striker to offer competition to Vipotnik.

Fair Enough 👍👍. I'm in the mindset that you need a quality player to compete for every position to make a team competitive at the top end of the table. Irrelevant of money etc. This is why building Under 21 players to compete is vital.

I think there was an option to have played Cullen there but never happened under Sheehan.
He might chance it come next season but I think he will still go with a holder and 2 all action players(Widell and Franco).
