Santos' defensive and possession stats are good, so I can see why we'd be interested in him as a squad player. Released by Bolton, so available on a free. I wouldn't mind us signing him as long as we have stronger candidates in mind to replace Darling, if, as seems likely, he leaves.

Yes we need depth at CB - not as a first choice direct replacement for Darling - but could be useful.

He hasn't been playing for a while, so it may be that his head isn't right. Mind you they signed Bradley in January and he has excellent experience of getting teams promoted from League One.

Looking at Santos' stats over a number of seasons his nuts and bolts defending stats - tackles, duels and aerial duels are consistently good. He does seem to concede 1 penalty a season on average. Overall he would seem to be a solid squad option, and we certainly need those, given that we will lose Pedersen, Naughton and Delacroix and possibly Darling. I suspect we will also look to sign an utility player who can cover full back and centre half roles, or DM and centre half roles, such as Kyprianou.

Pretty positive on the whole, although injury issues recently are a concern. To make the League One PFA team of the year three years in a row suggests consistent quality.

To meet P & S regulations we will need a few free signings plus loanees. Hopefully this will enable us to spend more on the first eleven.
