Are we missing that nobody has offered £5m for him? That’s what we want for him, whether anyone is daft enough to pay that is a whole other bag of apples.
Yes, you are right but the bottom line is having off the field football people making these decisions, coupled with the finance being available, instead of floundering from one season to another. We can see already in a short period of time how the club has changedThis isn't a new thing with us. Jenkins used to be the same with contracts. It's one of the reasons why we lost both Pratley and DeVries for nothing when we got promoted to the Prem.
Talks should start 18 months out from contract expiry. If nothing can be agreed by the 12 month stage then a sale needs to be considered.
I would go as far to say Keys defending is non existent. Tymon a bit better but gets open up so easily. If it wasn't for Tymon passing and assists then we would be looking elsewhere. Key on other hand, very creative player but looks lost when he gets to a certain point with the ball. He does everything right in attacking and then suddenly loses it. I would have no problem in us selling and getting someone more composed. We have two full backs - Key and Tymon - who are both vulnerable in defensive situations but are a driving force moving forward and creating opportunities. Its a dilemma if the rumour has fact, but the bottom line is that every player in the squad has a price on their head, but on the other hand, we now have a recruiting team that I feel will replace either player and still make a profit.
Nobody has offered 5m for him.5m 1 year left on contract sounds good as long as the add ons in the deal are attainable. ie no 1m for promotion clause. Boro are not a relegated premiere league team like Leeds with Piroe.
Parker may be ready. Pre-season will establish that
Regardless of Key/Parker we could still do with a utility full back.
Looking around at the free agents Pederson is available
Was that a joke with Pederson comment? Just curious. I agree with the rest you said but Pederson back???5m 1 year left on contract sounds good as long as the add ons in the deal are attainable. ie no 1m for promotion clause. Boro are not a relegated premiere league team like Leeds with Piroe.

Might not be Middlesbrough but I definitely think we’re looking at offloading Key now we have Ethan in as well.Interesting that Key wasn't involved yesterday with a niggle.
I’ll be shocked if we’re planning on playing such a cultured footballer there. Admittedly I’ve only ever seen him play once, but he has the look of a LEON about him. Looks to be a Rolls Royce. I’d imagine he could fill in there now and again, but not full time. In my humble opinion anyway.Might not be Middlesbrough but I definitely think we’re looking at offloading Key now we have Ethan in as well.
Reminded me a little of Scott Parker - must be the hair. Too cultured for RB as Dr Winston said unless emergencies strike - and even then we’ve got another as good midfielder to play in his placeI’ll be shocked if we’re planning on playing such a cultured footballer there. I too was one of Naughton's biggest fans. I think he was remarkably fit for his age, extremely versatile, and a true Jack, through and through. I wish they'd given him one more year. It galls me that Fulton is still getting game time when I don't see value in him, despite that he's been a good servant over the years, but he passed his sell by date at least 2 seasons ago."Happy" might be a strong word, but I wouldn't lose much sleep if we started the season with what we currently have and waited to see what happened as things get a bit tighter for clubs and players.
Most of those who have left have already been replaced. Even if Yates goes I wouldn't see him as someone we needed to rush to find an alternative for. We managed without him last season. We did good early work, very early in Widell's case. Now we can afford to negotiate from a position of relative strength.
I know I was a bigger fan of his than most, but in the long run Naughton might be the hardest to replace. Potentially four positions covered by one player who isn't there any more.
