Summer Transfer Window

Do we normally see a flurry of early activity? I’m not saying you’re wrong because I haven’t looked at the dates for previous windows but I always remember us signing practically nobody in June, one or two in July and then mostly panic at the end of August.

That’s obviously reductive but the early activity of this window didn’t feel usual for us, to me at least.
Depends on what you define as early I suppose - for my money I split the window in to two periods, June and the first couple of weeks of July, followed by the period leading up to the window closing.

In recent years in that first period, we've signed Piroe, Wood, Yates, Walsh, Ginnelly, Eom, Franco, Key, Joe Allen. Not exactly fringe players, and all in quite early.

Thereafter followed relatively quiet periods, with further arrivals tending towards the end of the window.

Sheehan knows he needs to start well, any prolonged poor start he'll be gone. He knows what he needs it's whether the owners can sanction it.
I know pre-season doesn't offer much and all of that, but it's really has me worried with the season coming so close. With our injury issues, I am trying to stay positive but can see us losing quiet alot in August.

Unless the performances absolutely stink out the place he will get some grace
We have the statistically hardest opening 10 games in the division

This was my point Sheehan will end up being sacked as a result of people unrealistic expectations of where we are at I’ve seen people say Sheehans got no excuse not to deliver this season it baffles me especially given the fact players like Congreve ,coterill and Parker will be mainstays in our squad when it’s obvious they are not quite ready for the level and would be better off on loan in the division below
Congreve has hit his ceiling, that is patently obvious.

Joe Allen didn't need replacing, he was a spent force and injury prone when he was re-signed.
This was patently bullshit :)

A super quick google search tells me he played 35+ games in every season of his six years at Stoke bar one where he spent a significant portion of that season with an achilles tendon rupture

Yes his return was disappointing with how often he was able to take the field for us, but thats enough of a stick to use without calling him a spent force that played 222 games over 6 seasons (an average of 37 appearances each season)

Even after the season wrecked by his achilles rupture he followed up his final season with Stoke by clocking in 44 appearances totaling 3750 minutes (an average of 85 mins per game)

You're not just missing the point, you're not even in the same postcode.

It doesn't matter about Joe Allen himself. The point is, he's left, there's a gap to fill. A gap that means Fulton has to play more if we don't. We need to fill it.

Nixon now reporting that Ipswich are after McBurnie - he really does just make it up as he goes

Cameron Congreve was excellent on loan last season at Barrow. Has been very prominent, in our friendlies, looking very lively, and could well start against Lorient, on Saturday. This will hopefully, be his breakthrough season.

In their League 2 predictions for this season, the Not The Top 20 Podcast had Bromley finishing quite low, with their argument being that Congreve and another loanee have left, and they're 'very good League 1 players at the absolute least'. I'm not going to attest to watching him much last season, but these guys would have seen him a fair whack and are very complimentary.

I appreciate that 'very good League 1' is not the standard we'd want to be looking for in new signings, but for a 21 year old academy player, I think he's more than earned a rotation spot in the squad.
