Swansea City kicked off their pre-season campaign with a pair of victories over Newport County in games played behind closed doors at Spytty Park.

Steve Cooper’s squad was split over two hour-long fixtures, with the Swans emerging as 1-0 and 4-0 winners.

Morgan Whittaker scored the winner in the opening contest, turning the ball home from close range, while Adrian Akande and Kyle Joseph went close to adding to the visitors’ tally.

The second game saw George Byers, Liam Cullen and Jamal Lowe (2) find the back of the net, while there was another clean sheet for the Swans.

Jordon Garrick teed up Byers for the opener with a pull-back from the right side of the area, before Cullen lofted the ball over the keeper from Lowe’s cross.

Lowe then rounded off the scoring as Jake Bidwell and Dan Williams set the forward up to coolly fire home the third, before completing his brace from a Cullen pass.

Nice to see some early goals in preseason for our attacking players. Admittedly the opposition was only league 2 standard but early goals will do wonders for the confidence moving into the tougher preseason fixtures.

The second game it sounds like we did play Garrick and Lowe as wingers either side of Cullen which sounds promising at least. Hard to tell though with no mention of the lineups for each game

Oddly our site lists it as two 60 minute games ending 1-0 and 4-0 while Newports lists it as a game with two 60 minute halves with a final score of 4-0

The Exiles stepped up their preparations for the season ahead, with a 4-0 loss to the Swans on Wednesday afternoon.

County enjoyed their fair share of chances in front of goal, but it was the Swans’ goal 23 minutes into the game which put them into the lead.

In a match played over two, sixty-minute halves at Newport County’s training ground, a chance at redemption from Aaron Lewis saw the ball hit the crossbar in the 59th minute.

A further three goals for the Swans in the second half of the game sealed their victory over Michael Flynn’s side.

The Exiles get their Sky Bet League Two campaign underway on Saturday 7 August when they travel to Boundary Park to face Oldham Athletic.
