Why the fck would you consider developing their players for them suitable payment?
Because, like it or not, we will always rely on loan players and Southampton has one of the best conveyor belts for young talent. After all, we are not very good at it when you think about the number of our own under 21 & under 23 players that make the match day team.

You can't really make an agreement like that binding though can you? Southampton could just say yes we agree we'll send you players on loan. But then if we don't agree to pay full loan fees or wages percentages etc or the games played %, Southampton would refuse and even then they could covertly tell the player to not to agree to it. Ultimately the agreement wouldn't be worth the paper it would be written on.

Neither did a written agreement, ie contract of employment, work either!

But the sanctions for breaking a contract such as Martin had should be enforceable, whereas this loan cooperation agreement thing you're suggesting wouldn't.
