I think serious questions need to be asked about the way prisons are run currently, I don’t recall prison officers being attacked in the past, as they seem to be now. Even if we had a similar capital punishment to America, from a quick google it takes longer than ten years before the offender gets executed, which would not solve the problem of these current prison attacks.
 
Prison officers have always been attacked, since prisons began. You don’t recall because people normally don’t give it a second glance, it’s only because the most recent were carried out by high profile prisoners.

Yeah, 10,496 assaults on prison staff in 2024.

That may be so. But if you look at this chart, you can see there’s a rather large increase of prison officers being attacked just in the last twenty years.
