The January 2023 Transfer Thread

Why do the Americans leave it to the last minute to either sell or complete deals, they've done it every season

Leaving it late is a product of capital power in my view, though not the only reason for late dealings.

We were seen by others as contenders under Cooper with links to players of the calibre of Gallagher who jumped from Charlton around this time.

Lately with the exception of the United full back, young loan players are not getting games.

I don't see these as important setbacks.

Most of the deals come late as it is inevitable with parties weighing up options. The money is tighter than it has been in the last ten years.

Does anyone else see it as troubling that a team vying for automatic promotion is sniffing around a player of ours (Obafemi) who can’t seem to get consistent playing time?

Tells me that despite all his other issues, perhaps Rusty Marlin’s man management is the biggest problem of them all?

Yet his former manager at Southampton publicly criticised him as well?

Mitch's updated article pretty much confirmed everything.

Martin frustrated on Ogbene chase, obvious that was the signing he was talking about being close coming into January, he was left out of squad etc, suddenly no longer viable for us, whether that changes as the window goes late who knows. Fingers crossed.

Other targets who we have since missed out on, I'll take the lad at Vital's word for one being the spanish lad who played at Hudds while Marsh was there, Pipa. Maybe the leeds boy the other.

Jamie Paterson, forward, Swansea
This is a classic case of everyone putting two and two together and getting five, and it’s easy to see why. The Coventry-born, self-confessed Sky Blues fan has always had a knack of scoring against his hometown club and has been greatly admired by Mark Robins in the past, the manager having tried to sign him twice – once while at Huddersfield and, more recently, two summers ago when he switched from Bristol City to South Wales. The 31-year-old was in brilliant form last season when he provided nine assists and nine goals for the Swans but has this season fallen out of favour with boss Russell Martin, so much so he has been left out of the last four matchday squads. Martin has made no secret of the fact that there’s been interest in the lively forward and is clearly prepared to let him go this January. Reports from Wales claim Coventry are interested.

Verdict: While he’s just the type of player Robins is looking for and everything would appear to fit, CoventryLive understands the Sky Blues are not currently pursuing an interest in the player.

So we're stuck with him

And not only him, we'll probably be stuck with Oba as well as it seems like only Burnley are interested and we're playing hardball trying to sell him to a club that don't actually need him.

Pato & Oba are finished here and there's no point in us continuing to pay them until the summer. The Whittaker situation is slightly different in that, if he doesn't leave, we have a decent player on our books but if Martin won't play him, it's a lose-lose situation for both player and club. Whole situation is an absolute farce IMO.

Club Brugge apparently interested in Ogbene, that’s that one done and dusted then.
