Franco and Yalcouye one would go high and one would drop deep

Cullen never drops deep and offers

I hate to be constantly negative about him, but it’s like playing with 10 men. His only attribute is he’s our only other natural finisher after Vip. But we haven’t got the luxury to carry someone who can poach in the box when we rarely get in the box. It’s not so much him being a bad player, more he doesn’t fit us (or modern football- he’s the second striker in a 442).

A good point in anyone’s book, and second half until the Norwich pen we looked more than good.

As much as I think Matos has done a superb job there’s been one consistent flaw, a recurring pattern in every game. I think a lot of you have alluded to it, EVERYTIME we make a few substitutions we look a worse team. No matter who it is coming on, our shape and control goes.

Some of the areas lacking in quality can be rectified in the transfer market, but this one is systematic. I guess that’s what we get with a 38 year old Maots, he’s learning. He’ll get it right eventually I’ve no doubt, but it may not be with us.

Agree
And he cannot fulfil the lone striker role either

To be fair we have looked alright with subs. As Matos is keen for every player to have impact. And has mentioned we need some depth in the summer. Problem we had today was, Franco has played 2 games in short period and Cullen wasn't the answer. From what Matos said, Widell felt something last game hence him not starting. If any complaints today it's Cullen. He literally caused us so many problems. The issue is Matos likes him and he is on cheaper wages. And even our second highest goal scorer. Credit to Norwich though. Thought we cancelled each other out.

Cullen is the glaring issue. I think Matos is aware and I have a sneaking suspicion that he may be moved on.
For me the problem is highlighted in players like Widell. I rate him highly, when he starts he’s everywhere, getting chances (and missing them) and as soon as he goes off we fall apart.
But then, when he’s a sub we can be on top in a game, he comes on and we lose control.
Odd. Happens with the full backs too.

Not a criticism though, we’ve been a good side since November and the future is bright.

Ultimately our points tally since Vitor took over has been play off form

Of course keeping up that form when under pressure is a different kind of test that almost none of these players have had before. The few times we managed to grind our way into the possibility of the playoffs this season we choked in the pivotal games.

Evolution rather than revolution is definitely going to be the transfer strategy this summer
We have 3-4 players that we can build a promotion winning team around, we just need to improve in central defense and on the wings
