Much is written about the Summer 13 transfers but the reality is how many of them have had an impact

Rushworth
Humphreys
Patino
Lowe
Ashby
Tymon
Yates
Kuharevich
Key
Pedersen
Tjoe-A-On
Ginnelly
Broome

Rushworth is certainly a positive but given the generous nature of the defence in front of him has probably never been so busy. Key is an obvious success

Tymon has got better in recent weeks and both Lowe and Patino have shown flashes of adding value although mysteriously now we seemingly refuse to play Patino.

Ashby, Humphreys and Yates have been massive disappointments. Ashby and Humphreys seem to give off a persona that they are too good to be here whilst Yates, largely starved of decent service, is certainly not value for money for the excessive fee we spent on him.

Pedersen and Tjoe-A-On have both been moved on

Kuharevich we are told could be a good player but (see Patino) we refuse to play him whilst Broome was only ever back up.

Ginnelly looked a good player before his injury but early to tell, lets see how he does when he comes back

Lowe should be seen as nothing more than a short term stop gap for earlier this season.

I would agree when we signed him

But you just know we will offer him a three year contract in May

As much as people slag off the owners for poor investment etc i dont think at the time last summer we could argue that an effort wasnt made to expand a threadbare squad. Obviously we didnt have the money from the piroe sale and losing oliver on the eve of the season was a killer.
On paper atleast you could see what Duff was trying to achieve with his 5 at the back with the signing that were made.
The loan signings have not made the impact that we would have liked unfortunately and even though yates has been disappointing his outlay was not huge so would expect to get close to his value returned in the summer if he was to move on.
Tymon now he has settled looks a class apart, almost alittle to caviler but atleast he's trying to make an impact each game. You can see why his preferred position is wing back but we just dont have the centre halfs for that system.

Pederson injured

"may be out for some weeks and more"

from the Wednesday O.S.

I agree, we spent a fair amount in the summer on players that seemed promising. The issue is that virtually all of our permanent signings have made literally no impact. Pedersen has been deemed too shit to be here (not saying he isn't, but he has looked handy in his limited game time), Yates barely gets a kick of the ball because we haven't a clue how to get it to him, and Ginnelly has been out from effectively day one. Of the rest, half of them aren't our players (Lowe, Ashby, Humphries, Rushworth, Patino), and even then, we'd only really be happy with Rushworth.

Then you've got Tjoe-A-On and Kukharevich who are complete enigmas. I won't dive into the Kukha chat here as there are entire threads about it on the forum, but it beggar's belief that he isn't getting game time. Williams hasn't been here long, but he's not winning fans over with his handling (or lack) of Kukha - what harm was there in bringing him on last night? If he was shit, the fans at least can see that he's not all he's cracked up to be and buy Luke a little leeway. Tjoe-A-On is here for the future, but still a shame to not see him kick a ball.

So we're effectively left with Tymon and Key as our two worthwhile signings from the summer. Admittedly, Tymon has been consistently good-great since December - as well as fit, which makes a change from the rest of our defence - but it's a shame we've been without Key for so long. Is he ever coming back?

We just dont seemed settled atm, injuries, newbies coming in, newish manager, it's no good for anyone, just hope we can get into a groove and kick on for the rest of the season.

Who on earth would be likely to give us our money back for Yates? We'll count ourselves extremely lucky if someone offers half and we're stuck paying half his wage for the next few years. Maybe some rich club in L1 might get desperate?

Tymon "a class apart" is so depressing. He makes a couple of forward runs a game, one or two competent crosses, then hides from the ball and the man he's supposed to be marking the rest of the game. His only consistent quality is that he's athletic enough to look like he's trying, even when falling short.

2.5m for a striker who over the course of the past 18 months has 20 league goals is not to be sniffed at. Blackpool were gutted to lose him, a poor 6 months in a players career doesnt deflate aplayers value that much and at 27 im pretty sure there would be interest in him.
It seems to me alot of people on here are judging all our new recruits over a 6 month when the club has been at its most unstable for years. 2 new managers, new formations etc etc. Just think its a massive knee jerk reaction at times.

You might be right about judging players after just 6 months, what does stand out about Yates is his reluctance to get involved in the more physical side of the game, some would even suggest that he's a bit of a bottle merchant.
6 years wouldn't change that aspect of his game, never mind 6 months...

I think the point about judging new players during a turbulent period is a fair one - we've had 3 managers this season, and the first one of those was also new to the job. We haven't really had a settled side or style of play at any point.

That being said, some players have looked good from the off (Key), while others have only had brief moments (Yates, Tymon).

I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself on judgements on players (aside from in the emotional hothouse of a match day thread..), or the manager - until the last game of the season is done.

We definitely need to ease off on the loan addiction next summer. Be brave and sign our own players. I understand how it makes business sense on one level to get a loan in. At the end of the season you're off the hook on any further financial commitments to that player and no contract to worry about. Contrast Ashby and Pedersen. Neither is looking like working out, but at least with Ashby we are done with in the summer; we'll have Pedersen and his reported 18k a week sitting on the books for another year unless we can move him on. But I still think it's too disruptive to have so many loans.

If you look in a little more detail he had long barren spells last season as well, with most of his goals came in short purple patches playing out of position. Also penalties, which he doesn't take for us. The data never backed him to be a success here, so the outlay for a player his age with only one productive season at this level under his belt (in which his team was relegated) was ill-advised.

Hopefully some mugs out there see his goal tally and think it's good value.

Im not for one second saying hes been a good signing but he arrived as our number 2 striker (yes you could argue the board knew piroe would be off) but it was never guaranteed. When you lose 2 goal scoring number 10s (35 goals last season) then any new striker is going to be compared to what they bought us and at the fraction of the price. Shake hands with him end of season and hopefully any financial damage will be limited

We only have to look at chelsea as a high profile club to see what alack of stability can do to a club. Martin had his players then Duff came in and wanted his type of player and you could see what he was trying to achieve with the players bought in. I find it hard to bash coleman and watson in the last 2 transfer windows as they clearly have tried to bring in players that the respective managers wanted and where the club was most in need ( last summer new fullbacks and January some wingers) luke in fairness as realised pretty quickly that we dont have the personal for a back 5 but with injuries etc hes just glueing aback 4 into place.

I honestly believe that with a proven striker and a centre midfielder with legs next season we could push top 10. No need for another drastic overhaul in my opinion.
