The Swans will not be relegated but the worry shows how quick we've regressed

Has anyone checked Transfermarkt's breakdown of SCFC's sales and purchases since relegation at the end of 17/18? Transfermarkt covers all the clubs in the major leagues in Europe and SCFC's record illustrates a key reason for the decline of the club under these owners:

Based upon their figures, the owners have sold a total of 142,470 euros worth of players and re-invested only 24.930 euros on incoming. Therefore generating a surplus of 117.540 euros (ie circa £110,330) Add to this the £88.8m parachute payments for the first 3yrs following relegation, then £199,130m has been generated and has gone somewhere. Certainly not into strengthening the squad.

With these figures, it can be no surprise at all that we are not just struggling now, but have been on sustained decline over several years, and it is inevitable that decline will continue for years to come whilst we have these owners at the club.

If we also take into account the 20M black hole for every season since relegation........ 100M up until the end of last season.

A miserable thought:
We’ve conceded 48 goals by the first week of Feb and our only realistic contender for a nomination for player of the year is our young goalie, who is on loan.

Josh Key is another nomination even though he’s been injured half the season… and Pato probably

100% Key. Being less miserable, Tymon is really winning me over after a slow start. Shocked WOL only gave him 5/10 for Saturday.

Interesting to see the teams who were relegated with us and their contrasting fortunes, this season Stoke and us are looking down rather than up, WBA looking up rather than down. WBA seem to have stopped bouncing up and down from the PL but have still been promoted and relegated in the time since we were relegated together. I would imagine that their finances are still being affected by the PL parachute money.

I read a report earlier on the financial situation there and I suspect if it were not for the Coates family they would be in as bad a situation or worse than us. They had £120 million in debt written off by the Coates family.

The PL seems to have left a lot of relegated clubs with a hangover that may take many years to recover from.

Our hangover is purely down to our owners

This is why we’ll be very close to going down. We are higher than we should be.

WBA are in financial crisis. Lai (owner) has crippled them with debt and no buyers ready to bail them out, although there are rumours. Assets will need to be sold or administration beckons, which may be what potential buyers are waiting for

Every club in the Championship operates with a steep deficit that needs to be made up with player sales or ownership gifts/loans. The typical income is £15-20m a year, and the typical wage bill is £25-30m just to be "competitive". If you're wondering where the money has gone you don't have to be Inspector Morse to figure it out.

The Championship is a money pit and the gap between it and the PL gets wider every year. We're not alone in that, but we've probably managed it worse than many for a variety of reasons (short-term thinking from managers more interested in developing other clubs' players than our own a big one for me).

Yes, and IIRC Financial statements haven't shown hefty dividends have they?
