This Railway strike

They have to go through a lot of training to drive those things.

There are few drivers on strike (they are in ASLEF), RMT are all the guards, ticket collectors, cleaners and the maintenance workers. Hence the government claims of high median wages are somewhat exaggerated by including the higher paid but non-striking drivers.

It was my little joke Prof. “Training”. I am aware of the usual obfuscation by the government which often involves downright lies with this lot.

In a large workforce which is heavily unionised this is the inevitable result, and it won’t be long before the next sector plans something similar.

Is it justified? Probably so.

Are there others that are deserving of a pay rise? Absolutely so and I will put front line NHS workers at the front of the queue.

For years most workers have either had no pay rise or a small pay rise as inflation has been quite low, while members of Parliament have awarded themselves inflation busting wage rises . Covid has completely changed the labour market with people choosing different career paths, and with a shortage of workers in a lot of jobs the ordinary man is beginning to rise up again. Good luck to them.

Thank you. Very articulate answers and in depth.
I wasn't too sure about it in all honesty, but I've been educated.

No worries.

I stand behind the Railway workers ✌️

Fair days pay for a fair days work 👍

Careful now Swanjaxs. A statement like that is enough for you to be branded a far-left woke Communist these days... ;)

Can somebody could put me right on some issues I have heard on media today , maybe spin though .

Some trains / tubes in London controlled via computer input , therefore no drivers necessary .
Also track checks being undertaken by drones , so no manual or human eye inspection now needed ?

Some of these claims including futuristic driverless cars want me want to buy a horse and cart taking into account fuel prices on top of everything else .

Absolute solidarity with the strikes and it fills me with joy to see the support coming from my comrades here on this site.

How dare they ask for a pay rise, it's ok for the govt though to give MP's a 2 grand rise, didn't notice MP's having to take industrial action to get that

I agree. Money is tight and this rail strike really f*cks me up this week but why should these people, and NHS workers, and anyone else, be told there’s no money in the pot when MP’s and the like always seem to find some when it’s their turn. People have a right to withdraw their labour at any time they choose.

Agency staff 😁 there is only one reason they would do that , to stir things up

Starmer beyond useless in all of this. Grow some bollocks you wimp.

Kier the coward, has today confirmed that he is not the man to take Labour forward. He doesn't know whether to stick or twist. Any half decent opposition leader would have had Johnson on his knees months ago. Coward.

What has gone under the radar today is that TFW services from the valleys to Cardiff were running. This is because the tracks are run by TFW who are owned by our Welsh Government. No strikes as an agreement was made between Welsh Govt and TFW workers.

Very smooth on the trains today and no evidence of a hangover from yesterday. Gatwick to Swansea via Faringdon and the Elizabeth Line. It's running smoother today than it normally does. No sign of any passenger drop off either.
