Tony Santore aka Davilin RIP

:( Well this is sad news. I argued and argued with him for as long as I’ve been posting on planet swans. I never understood why this old geezer from the states followed a bottom division club in South Wales but he was very genuine and friendly in private exchanges.

RIP Dav.

He was born in Bethlehem,Pennsylvania.

Intriguing, Dar. So what was his connection with Swansea and did he often visit? I'm assuming he did from some of the posts in this thread

I think it was something to do with a soccer camp in PA.
I know he had a big connection to Chris Todd for some reason because when he was over here the first time at Christmas 2001 Toddy took him to see Kev Johns in panto at the Grand,he told me he was fascinated by the panto because they don’t have anything like that in the States.

He was also in the away end at Exeter on Boxing Day 2001 and that must have been an eye opener because it was absolutely mental there.

I think we all agree that regardless of our views on individual issues we all recognise Tony as being a massive Swansea City fan and a person worthy of respect and affection. I argued the toss with him on so many issues for a long time, but now I wash I’d replied to that last email he sent me last year. But I didn’t. This has made me very downbeat this Saturday night.

Chin up, don’t be too hard on yourself.

That’s what we’re here for!

Badumtish!

He sent me a folder full of poems he’d written a few years ago.
They’re here somewhere probably in a box in the attic.

I can’t lie mind they were way over my head.

They still are if they're in the attic.

just one or two emails with the guy, a man of obvious intellect who was targetted by a few trolls for that reason. Like a few on here I disagreed with much of what he posted but his presence was an addition to the boards.

From stardust to stardust.

Me and Dav corresponded for years and it’s fair to say we almost literally agreed on nothing. But that was part of the fun and we both enjoyed it enough to keep it going.

Aye, but to be fair you both were appreciative of the cerebral side and there you found a space to engage in that arena. Which meant receiving anothers view, digesting it then either agreeing or offering a counterview. A heady mix for those with an intellect but diificult for those of us who just howl at the moon.

Sad news, had a couple of chats with Tony back in the day, nothing bad, all round decent gentleman, RIP Tony

I’m pretty sure that ex-Swan Glennie Davies had something to do with the kids taken to the soccer camp too because every time Dav was over he’d go to his house for a meal.

Yep, I got a ear bashing by PM when I did a throw away line about the limitations of Glenville and Phil Holme. I had to explain that they were two of my favourites because of those limitations and we had a laugh. RIP Dav.

I actually saw Phil Holme in Neath last week.

That's really nice cleddau.
I remember him telling me he'd taught English, but so nice to see it confirmed.
I had no idea he'd been in the US Air force.
85 years of age is a good innings.
