VW transporter advice

What is best an SWB or LWB?
Any other advice/things to look out for ?

Plus any other options? Renault?
 
What's your objective, Dicky? Social use or industrial? Need seating capacity or not?

Very good residuals on VW's but you will inevitably pay a bit more up front.
 
My neighbour has one and gave me a try out a while back.
Just trying to work a few things out

Based on the numbers that you see on the road they are clearly very popular and across multiple purposes. It's no longer a vehicle used for simply shifting a load.
 
Swan65split is the man to ask on the VW scene.

Not sure if he an oint you in the direction of modern transporters.
 
Can’t go wrong with the fairly new Transit. Very similar standard but usually considerably cheaper and more stock availability
 
They are very popular, Cooperman has made some good points and it all depends what you want from the van. VW’s are more expensive, but you will get more for it when you sell.

Neighbour of mine is on his second, he an exSky van which he then took to a guy up Foelgastell way, had it jazzed up, row of seats, TV fitted, panelled it out, alloys and maybe a remap. He sold it on after about a year and certainly got us cash back, maybe even made a profit. He bought a second one, this time it was one of the powerful models T150 (?) seats fitted and a window, but he says the 2 are completely different bass and he likens the new one to being more like a car to drive.

You can get a Transit Custom, Renault Master, Peugeot, Vauxhall kitted out, but it depends on what you want. You can have a van with seats or go the full hog and get it converted in to a camper.

A friend of mine who lives in California has a really old VW camper. There must be at least 300lk on the clock and he is finding parts now hard to source. He has done a ton of work on it himself and somehow it is still going!

if its the old models before 1980, theres no problem getting stuff, though most is now cheap rubbish, later models are a different matter, anything over 10yrs old is classed as obsolete by VW.
