Weirdest thing you've ever eaten...

Some kind of Filipino tripe curry, it was buzzing.

Totally agree with the professor about eating raw chicken and I’d also go as far as to say only eat quality stuff and make sure it’s well cooked.
One of my kids got taken ill while we were abroad a few years ago and nearly died. It transpires he’d caught ecoli157 from food which then developed into Shiga, he spent 12 days in hospital, had 3 plasma transfusions and numerous other treatments. We were lucky to have a great doctor and medical team looking after him.

EHEC/STEC infections like 0157 can be very nasty indeed. The shiga toxin they produce can cause serious problems. Sounds to me that the care was excellent- not using antibiotics is important as leads to more toxin release. We underestimate foodborne infection/ food poisoning as a disease. Bit of a laugh have the old ten Bob bits, but kills at least 500,000 around the world each year.

Managed to avoid any tripe In Philippines, but generally Filipino food is a bit meh.

In fairness Asda chicken is no better or worse than any supermarket. All have a better than fifty:fifty chance of having Campylobacter. Caught that in Glastonbury- eleven days on the kharzi. Still lost a stone.

Going back to my Ayia Napa holiday, I also had octopus and chips, said octopus gave me the shìts for 3 days.
All jokes aside, the best holiday I've ever had

The delights of dining off the beaten track in Japan can throw up some odd things. Boiled pigs womb and chickens knee caps appeared in the same meal one night.

My wife has looked for odd cuts of meat before now, so I can believe it.

I remember on one trip to Japan, we went on a tour of a Kirin beer plant, at the end we had free beers and they brought snack packets, the packets was a mix of Japanese snacks and included tiny fish  .

On another occasion we stopped off in a restaurant and I had no clue on what to order, so I had the same as her. The food came as a mixture of small dishes, one dish contained just a raw quail egg that had been cracked into the dish. I though OMG what am I supposed to do with this. She started mixing things and eating, so I copied her, at the end there was only the raw egg left, so I hesitantly asked what we do this, she said "I don't like the egg". I was so relieved.

If eating out as a group of Brits only we would always have one night of ordering without the aid of both food pictures and an English menu. That’s brought about some weird and wonderful combos!

I only stated it looked undercooked, same as if presented with a picture of a boiled sausage.

A quick google this morning, tells me these would look a lot better if deep fried or bbq'ed.

I've had another look and clearly I was tired when replying to your post last night, apologies.

I think I thought you were suggesting that it should have been browned, which of course it wouldn't be if it was boiled. I realise now you were saying it would probably look better fried and you're almost certainly right.

As apology, I will order pigs womb the very next time I see it on a menu. Which hopefully will be never...

Thank you, there was no need to apologise! I could have explained it a bit better what I was thinking, you were not at fault for thinking that.

Don’t worry about it, chaps. I can categorically state that it was pre cooked, in fact it was boiled to the texture of a flip flop.
