If we bought Whittaker, knowing nothing, for say 1.5m everyone including Martin would probably be thinking, that’s a decent punt for a promising in form front player’s . But because Martin can’t manage him effectively (unlike Plymouth) we’ll probably end up having to take whatever offer we end up getting in the next 2 weeks. If I was Rangers I’d be saying, ‘next week it’s 500k boys’. It’s all a bit nuts. Poor ‘asset management’. Ditto Oba and Pato. Not because we should keep, but the timing has been shambolic.

900K turned down we’re after 2M apparently.

We signed him for around £800k… he since gone on to be one of the stand out performers in League 1 and he’s still only young.

£2 million even seems a bit low for me.

As Michu said above 2M does seem abit low considering how much Brennan Johnson was valued at after a decent season with Lincoln and Forest, hopefully we attach a good sell on fee with him.

He probably needs that influential season in the Championship before anyone will offer silly money (Johnson was a bit like Sinclair with us - both doing it at a higher level than Whittaker). I'm not sure why Martin wouldn't give him a go considering how he's been playing these last 5 months. But then he does get bloody minded about players.

Just sell him ffs, same goes for Patterson. You can see it now, we won’t get rid of either of them by the end of the window, and we’ll be stuck with 2 players who won’t/don’t want to play, and will have brought nobody in. Selling Whittaker atm makes no sense at all. Whether Martin likes him or not, he’s a good player regardless and the fact that teams like WBA and Rangers are after him should tell you that, so, ideally RM would swallow his pride and play the lad and get rid of Oba and Pato ASAP. Getting rid of those 2 should free up enough funds to replace them and possibly add another body or 2.

Agree he should have a chance, surely offers more than Cundle/Congreve & Ntcham at this point, but apparently he wants out and wants the move to Rangers so don’t think there’s any coming back for now.

He's been here 2 years and is either ignored or sent out on loan.
He probably wants to settle at a club.
