West Brom plan talks with Swans boss Williams

What did Laudrup say about possession football?
Something along the lines of: possession is great but by the third or fourth pass you need to be hurting the opposition.

If he loved Wigan as much as he said he did there's been countless times over the last few seasons that he could have chucked his hat in for the managerial vacancy at the club. He's a snake -end of.
He certainly lost all my respect with how he left the club.

Brendan gets some grief for leaving, at least he went to a club like Liverpool and insisted on having a clause in his contract that netted the club a decent amount of money for him leaving.

I don't think the way we play now resembles the kind of football we played under either Martinez or Laudrup at all other than the emphasis on passing. Brendan perhaps to a certain degree (he was the first manager I can remember who started talking about possession figures), but there was plenty of room for flair and initiative inside those teams. One of Laudrup's first public comments was to mock the idea of possession for possession's sake.

Now it all seems a bit robotic and slow. Flair players tend to get stifled and micromanaged. Play the percentages. Do the same things over and over and over again and eventually it'll pay off. Effective enough I suppose, but boring.
Aye I remember Laudrup talking at great length about possession with penetration.
Tapping the ball back and forth between centre halves when you are 1-0 down with 5 mins to play was not his idea of possession football.

A team should be paying kitchen sink football if they're losing one nil with five to go, not faffing about with it on the edge of their own box.

West Brom was at home and Laudrup was in charge. It is quite possibly the greatest 45 minutes of football I have ever witnessed live.
The first game where he operated with three wingers (Dyer, Hernandez and Routledge) and Michu as a false nine.
The pace and interplay was devastating and even Laudrup said he had no instructions for the side in that half, he just sat back and enjoyed football the way he believed it should be played.

Brendan knew he was getting offers from other clubs after his season with us.
He didn't have to but he signed a new contract with us with an improved release clause despite knowing that there was contact from other clubs via his agent.

Totally different prospect than Martinez or Martin.

It was quite difficult to find some highlights, but here they are.
The speed of passing is light years ahead of what we play now.

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup:

"The first half was one of the few times as a manager that you are just watching the game, it was a delightful, it was fantastic.

"We also saw the quality and attitude but the mental part is important too because they scored late in the first half.

"It was a great team performance and I don't want to single out any individual performance.

"Everybody was great to watch. We have the momentum and we want to keep it now."

I agree to a certain extent about the hierarchy, but he did go on MOTD specifically to market himself. He was more similar to them than maybe we'd like to think. he really shat on Watford after saying he wouldn't, and then played Liverpool very cleverly, knowing he'd had a big increased whack with us whatever happened.

They wouldn't be normal if they weren't in it for themselves. Some are just better at playing to the fans gallery than others. The only people that really love the club with an attachment and are not in it for the money are the fans.

Anyone else watching that and shouting 'don't kick the hoardings ffs'?

When Brendan left Celtic for Leicester he was labelled a rat of the highest order.
A few short years later he's back and beating all in front of him, two domestic defeats in the whole of 2024, St Brendan has returned to Paradise...
Football aye, funny old game 🍀

I wish with all my heart that the f****r had come back to us when he wanted to. But no, we had to have Bradley instead.
