PRE-MATCH DISCUSSION

From what I’ve seen of Swansea this season they are more like a Bournemouth or Brentford than a Wycombe or Rotherham. Think it will be a tough game personally.

Thought it was a bit arrogant from Swansea tonight actually. They'll have seen the Bournemouth and Brentford games and how a high press and nullifying the wingbacks strangled us and yet it just seemed they ignored that and thought they would simply match us up and be better.

The last comment in the thread is quite telling, especially seeing Coventry's result yesterday (I realise that they had a player sent off).

PRE-MATCH DISCUSSION

I think the toughest opponents we'll face so far. Big test for us.

They have strengthened well. Guehi back on loan, he was superb against us I thought end of last season. At least they haven't got Connor Gallagher back who's work rate was as good as anybody, and amazing quality too with the ball at his feet.

Swansea don’t press high aggressively like say Barnsley (hectic press), Blackburn and Millwall. They will provide a different challenge. They will want to dominate possession. The more time they have it, the less time they have to think about getting it back. But when we get possession Swansea are not structured like Boro, they will let you play through them (not on purpose of course), just that they aren’t as good a defensive unit as plenty of other teams. They don’t have any ratty midfielders like Morsy. Korey Smith is energy but he’s not dirty, physical.

FIRST HALF

Swansea bench are vocal.

This whole spell of Swansea attacking has resulted from us giving it away on the halfway line when in control.

Fairly even first half, Swansea look a bit of a threat with little runs in behind our CBs but Bristol are coping generally quite well.

SECOND HALF

One down.

All from a poor pass by Pato.

All very well saying "our young centre backs", but Swansea have two 20 year old centre backs in their team. There's a difference between age, quality, and experience.

Penalty!

Pen? No way but I'll take it.

Laughable decision, we take them. GOAL!

Definitely a pen, clear trip inside the box. Not deserved or reflective of the game though.

A foul in the area is a penalty so it was the right decision no matter how unlucky for Swansea.

Swansea racking up the bookings.

Swansea have lost their discipline.

Some pretty poor route one stuff from both sides now.

POST-MATCH

We got out of jail there!

I thought we were decent in the second half and gave it a good go at the end and certainly deserved the draw. I suspect a point against Swansea will turn out to be a good result.

Poor game tbh.

Good result but a stinker to watch.

I still fail to see how even a one eyed home fan can see the Roberts foul as a penalty

Better still though was the commentary on Robins TV where Tinnion was flabbergasted that Connor didnt get booked again

Swansea 2 – 0 Stoke

Stoke fans forum: https://tinyurl.com/y4ucyegr

There was little to discuss on this match as the Stoke fans admitted that the Swans were the better side, and instead spent most of the discussion laying into their own team. Sam Vokes got a particular pasting from them, perhaps because they paid out so much money for him.

PRE-MATCH DISCUSSION

Bloody tough game. I’d be happy with a point.

Haven't got a good feeling about this one and I don't know why. 2-0 Swansea.

I think Swansea are probably ahead of us in terms of being a cohesive team. 1-2 defeat.

FIRST HALF

Swansea started at a big pace. Bluddy hell.

Their passing is crisp and quicker.

Swansea at a different level I'm afraid.

How fast are they on the wing? Either frighteningly so or we’re wading through treacle.

I've seen continents shift faster than Vokes.

It seems every Swansea player in both forward positions and midfield has pace.

Have Swansea got about 20 players on the pitch? It certainly looks that way.

SECOND-HALF

The scouser [Trundle?] is the best co-commentator I have heard - got us sussed completely, even down to how negative we are.

Their LB has had Brown in his pocket all night. Looks like a decent player.

Ayew’s a handful.

POST-MATCH

Plenty of credit to Swansea who have looked very good this evening.

The truth is Swansea were quicker out the blocks, sharper in all areas and generally better. We weren’t at the races, it happens unfortunately.

Thanks Glyn - love this thread seeing what everyone thinks of us

Swansea 2 – 0 Blackburn

Blackburn spent a lot of money pre-season and their fans expected them to make a serious attempt at reaching the play-offs. So far that hasn’t worked.

PRE-MATCH
Swansea away not a happy hunting ground. Remember them terminally destroying our back to back promotion hopes in 1981 in a sardine packed Vetch. Boy, we gave Leighton James some stick and he replied with a fine goal - he was a really classy player.

To Saturday and I have hope but realistically we are going to get beaten and perhaps badly. By all accounts Swansea have really clicked in their most recent games.

Swansea don't tend to hammer anyone. They're a decent side and hard to beat but usually win by a goal or two rather than dish out heavy beatings.

Cooper’s managed all the England youth teams, that’s how he gets all the England U18/21 on loan....not sure how smart he is but if you have better players it sure helps.

Ayew is a cert to score with the gaping holes in our defence. Always looks a cut above Championship when I’ve seen him.

Ayew is a class act, either kick him off the park or shut him down with man marking, worst thing to do is to give him any space.

FIRST HALF
I have an exceedingly high tolerance for bullshit, but the Welsh bloke on the Swansea iFollow commentary exceeds it. It's like listening to a die hard Swansea fan down the pub after a few pints.

1-0, game over and on to the next game, let’s just play bottom 6 teams every week because we can’t handle the better teams in this division it seems.

Clumsy from Evans, that's a penalty (albeit a very soft one).

Swansea won't be top 6. Ayew apart they look bang average.  That said, they've got enough to beat us. We simply aren't clinical at both ends of the pitch.

Yet again making a piss poor side look capable. Second in the table but they haven't shown any quality and looked a bit nervy until the goal.

They haven’t looked great at all, if we lose to these then god knows what that says about us.

I think Swansea are quite decent and along with Bournemouth and Norwich will be challenging for the first 2 positions.

Very even first half but the mistakes are in our defence not Swansea's.

SECOND HALF
Surely, with all these chances we must score at least one?! Strangely enough, since half time, feels like we could win this now!

Ffs. 2-0 and over.

Ayew always scores against us.

Swansea's keeper is team of the week for sure. He's unbelievable right now.

Woodman is probably the best keeper in this league. Him and Cabral (Reading) are probably the 2 I rate the most.

The score flatters Swansea. They've had 3 chances and scored 2. We've had at least 7 but nothing to show for it.

POST-MATCH
Final 29 mins not a single effort at Swansea's goal, they either have an excellent defence or we are a very poor team.

Another game - same outcome. Poor at the back, missed chances, dominated possession away from home against a good side.

At the sharp ends of the pitch, we haven't defended or taken chances clinically enough. Our opponents have. Ergo two defeats.

It was very noticeable that we were playing 20 yards deeper compared to the Reading game. Playing deep is not a bad thing of itself, but combined with 433 it basically meant we surrendered the midfield to Swansea as they outnumbered us. … We looked totally beaten by the 60th minute. All that said, we could have scored a couple and maybe got a point. Swansea were not really that good so it feels like an opportunity lost as opposed to, say, Reading where we were beaten by a much better team.

The last time we beat Blackburn 2 - 0 at home in the Championship (2nd Division ) was April 1981.

The rest they say is history!!

I hope history repeats itself. 😇

BRENTFORD 1 - 1 SWANSEA

Brentford fans forum: https://tinyurl.com/yxw4l32q

The previous two matches were against teams in poor form and with their fans in a negative state of mind. That was definitely not the case this time, with the Bees' supporters full of confidence.

PRE-MATCH

Finally a positive prediction from me. Based on the way we beat Luton, Bees to win 2-0.

3-1 Bees. Repeat of the play off result. [From someone who has Richard Burton as his photo.]

We are the closest league club to the Queen at Windsor Castle so we are allowed to eat Swans 4-0.

They don't like Frank very much do they. As far as I can tell his crime is sticking up for his players when their entire bench was trying to get them sent off for fair challenges, and then for stating (correctly) that we were a better team and would win the second leg, comments clearly aimed at boosting the confidence of our demoralised players. Meanwhile their dour manager was pathetically trying to pressure the FA into upholding Rico's red card and bleating about how much more money we'd spent (despite Ayew earning more than the GDP of some countries). So I'd like to beat them but given their strong start I think this one may be a draw 2-2.

I think Swansea have good players but an average manager. We have good players and a good head coach and this will make the difference in a tight game which we will take 1-0. They fell apart in the PO second leg despite the advantage Stroud gave them in the first and had no answers. It will be physical, borderline dirty, but Bryan Mbeumo pings one in to win it.

Off topic, but I was thinking has there been a better football team than us who has not got to the premier league?

FIRST HALF

2nd best at the mo.

And another one from Ayew - we are hanging on here.

High press once again and we can’t put passes together.

Bees coming back into this, the game has evened out slightly.

Gooooooal TONEYYYYYYY

It's not often we play badly and take the lead - about time we had a totally undeserved win!

Every time Ayew gets on the ball, I start to panic. But the goal changes the game and we’ve looked a lot better after we scored.

...

Swansea better than us .. Raya kept us in with two good saves. .. Great finish by Toney.

SECOND HALF

How many more fouls are they going to give us and not receive a card for?

Yellows can go both ways ref.

Explain why none of their players are getting booked??

[Ayew scores]

It's been coming.

Totally deserved.

That was coming. They’ve totally boxed us in this half.

It’s like they have 2 extra players. They outnumber us at the back so we can’t play out, when we attack we totally outnumbered again.

Very well organised. No wonder they thought they should have been in the p/o final last season, not us. But then again, we were significantly better at defending then, than now.

Ref completely out of his depth, sh*thousery from Swansea had been let go and loads of soft ones to us.

Definitely. Roberts doing what he does best. And still, 20 fouls in, no cards and last 5 minutes they’ve committed some bad ones and not even a free kick which would add to that 20.

POST-MATCH

Take the point and run. Swansea 20 fouls and not 1 yellow card, tells you all you need to know about the ref.

That's a point won rather than two lost. We seemed to be chasing them all game, and I cannot for the life of me cannot see what they were doing better. Can somebody with a better grasp of tactics please explain?

Swansea looked an excellent team but frail defensively once you beat the press which we failed to do time and time again. Having said that I would love Guehi in our back line, fantastic player.

To be fair our defence won’t come up against many better forwards than Ayew this season, his movement is excellent.

Painful viewing and was waiting for that equalizer to go in. A point is a good result all thing considering. I really hate Swansea btw, what a bunch of diving tw@ts.

Think that's a point gained - we've come a long way in the last year so it's easy to forget that Swansea still have parachute money, Ayew is on £80k a week and they also have England U17 WC winning loans like Guehi from Chelsea (who is superb).

It's not that we didn't play well. It's that we were outplayed by a better team. Again.

Just heard from Jake Bidwell - he says the new stadium is awesome, playing there in front of a Brentford crowd will be difficult - also said the pitch is first class.

I thought we looked lethargic. Saying that I thought Swansea weren't a bad side and will be up there at the end of the season. A point gained.

Tough game against a good side who deserved their point and looked most likely to take all three. They look a better, more settled side than us at the moment, in contrast to the playoffs where I thought we proved how superior a side we were to them.

At least we got a point which on balance was deserved outcome between two decent sides. Swansea are in good form and looked it, Bidwell has had a bit of a rebirth as a player as well. We looked sluggish at times but then again so did they.
