Williams In

This squad will have their good moments and poor moments.
Given the size of the squad and age scattered through it then we are going to be in for an inconsistent season with confidence being a big thing to deal with.
I know posters are saying the league is poor and it is, what I would say is this league suits us because we are going to be inconsistent ourselves this season.

I think it was clear that Williams is the guy going forward, defensively we are a million miles to what we were a few seasons back but has had to take away from some of our attacking threat from full back up until recently........was it a case of building confidence in Darling and Cabango and this is why we have seen Key and Tymon now starting to get forward more in the last 3 games or so?

It's funny with football fans, we lose and there is moans about playing players out of position-Abdullai.
We win and there is no moans about players playing out of position-MPH

Long may things continue as they are.
We go into the Burnley far more confident, wouldnt suprise me that we come back with something but on the other hand I wouldn't be shocked if we lose 3 or 4 nil.
My gripe with playing players out of position is the continuous use of it when it is clear for everyone to see Abdulai isn't and never will be a wide player.

Whilst it might not be Peters Harris natural position, he was at least effective whilst out wide.

Yes, all those managers (3 have gone on to manage in the Premier league), are wrong about him, and you are right.
Nice one, smart arse.

I can only conclude from that one of two things:

1. You have watched Grimes botching set pieces for 6 years and yet you still think he's good at them

2. You haven't watched much of him botching set pieces over the last 6 years.

Nearly everyone on this thread agrees he's crap at them, including me, but according to you it's all us who are wrong and you're right. It's an interesting view, I'll give you that.

I thought Peters Harris was outstanding in the first half. Nice to see a young player on loan from the Prem who actually looks as though he’s going to make a significant contribution.

Seems to suit him better than it has being through the middle.

So some people on a forum are right, and 3 premier league managers are wrong.

In this particular case, yes.

Pretty sure all those managers would have preferred a corner taker who can actually beat the first man with his corners. And they'll have all had the stats to hand to confirm the eyeball test.

So the most pertinent question to ask is, why didn't they do anything about it?

You failed to respond to the point.

Do watch Grimes and his free kicks and consider him effective? There’s no way you can answer yes to this.

He pinged in 2 unplayable free kicks in the first half that really needed finishing. 2nd half gave way to naughton and allen who both made a complete hash of things. 🤷‍♂️

Almost all his free kicks are totally unplayable.

Indeed he did, but we’re not basing our comments on only the last match.

Need to upgrade your specs if thats your opinion

But my point is people only remember the bad moments, so im stating he does regularly do alot of positive things which tend to get over looked in the hysteria. If Darling and co had been alittle more potent infront of goal from set pieces then we wouldn't be having this discussion as proof would be in the grimes assist bank

Darling and Co having no idea where the ball is going to land, certainly doesn't help anyone.

Grimes is far too inconsistent with his set pieces. We have much better quality in the side.

Grimes is rightly one of the first names on the team sheet, no argument here. However, his set pieces are generally abysmal. Then again if that’s the best we have, it’s the best we have.

Like who? 🤔 Even if you look at the premier league over the years a consistent set piece taker is like gold dust and literally on top of my head i can only think of baines and ward prowse as home grown. Again i just think people see the grass is greener elsewhere when if you read opposition teams match threads most say Grimes makes swans tick and wish we could have a player like him etc

Josh Tymon, even Mr Magoo would find their intended target more often than Grimes does.

Trent and Robertson of Liverpool are two that instantly spring to mind.

The lad is a decent player, there is no doubting that. It's questionable to suggest he makes us tick, a lot of the time it is the complete opposite.

The list of suitors hasn't exactly been extensive over the years, even when he was entering the last 6 months of his contract there wasn't a great deal of interest in him.
