Women’s World Cup 2023

Great World Cup overall, commiserations to England, but they didn’t show up imo in the final, but did well to get there, as usual part of me wanted England to lose today, not because of the team, but because of all the 1966 malarkey and the nonsense of William not attending etc, and the old “they’ve done way better than the men” stuff, I think the progression is vast in the women’s game, the comparison stuff is pointless though, so I felt a bit indifferent today to them winning, as a team and an achievement I wouldn’t have begrudged them at all, I know that’s just the way the press media and social media is, but it really doesn’t endear you to the cause.
Anyway, congratulations Spain, let’s hope one day we’ll see a welsh female team compete at the finals.

Probably just as well, we'd have had the men hijacking it in some shape or form to make it bout them .

Gabby Logan et al banging on about the penalty & saying it shouldn't have been given even though it was missed so no bearing on the result, yet no mention that it should have been retaken because of Earps moving forward before the kick as happened in an earlier game.

England very poor on the day, Spain's reserve team should have won by 2 or 3 clear goals, no doubt their full team would have.

Honestly couldn't give two shits, with either the English team, or women's football....

That’s not really true is it? If you really didn’t give two shits you wouldn’t have posted.

What a great final. Such an exciting match.

Spain were a cut above on the day but England did great for the tournament as a whole.

Let’s hope that the Welsh team can progress over the next four years to get there next time round.

The speed of progression is incredible.

Great tournament only spoiled by the games being at difficult times for us to watch.

Looking forward to the next one already. The four contenders to host will all be at more watchable times.

I thought it was a bland final lacking in goalmouth action, mainly because Spain controlled the match and got a relatively early goal so they could just stay compacted and in shape, England barely had a look in, England was very poor on the day a repeat of the Nigeria and Haiti games by England.

Some of the football played by Spain was technically top draw, I enjoyed watching it and don't mind saying.

Yes absolutely, Spain reserves were very good and England was very poor imo.

When you think that most of the first choice Spanish players were left out of the squad because the manager is a weirdo it makes you think how good they could have been...

“England barely had a look in”

Simply not true though is it. They hit the bar, Lauren James had a great chance which was well tipped over by the Spanish keeper and a few crosses from their right could have easily resulted in a goal.

It was a great match, exciting until the last minute, and it’s been an enjoyable tournament.

Spain were the better team and deservedly won.

I can't remember England having a single goalscoring chance in the entire match, the shot that hit the bar hit the top of the bar and was never going in, Lauren 'stamp on a prone opponents back' James kicked the ball at the goal from a tight angle with the goalie in position it was a 1 in 100 chance of scoring.
Now Spain did have goalscoring chances that they failed to take where they could/should have scored but England didn't have any where they should have scored.

Exactly seen it somewhere that 3 current Champions League winners were not picked for the squad after the dispute and the current Balloon d'Or winner for the last two years was a sub only brought on in the 90th minute.
15 regulars missing from the Spanish squad, it's amazing when you think about it.

Then you didn’t watch it.

Imagine my surprise.

It will be a huge disappointment if Wales don't make Euro 2025 in Switzerland, that's a compliment to their progress really.

They are in League A for the Nations League Campaign this Autumn and so would back themselves to be one of the top 16 teams in Europe.

A good showing in their group (Germany, Iceland, Denmark) will do wonders for their seeding next year.
