Then you didn’t watch it.

Imagine my surprise.

England didn't turn up this morning in fairness.

Has to be said though the Spanish keeper probably would have seen busier days....

Funnily enough, Trampie's first post in this 12 page thread that started a month ago only came today, after England lost the final. He didn't comment on any of the games they won. I can't imagine why...

What were these England scoring chances then ? Spain had a virtual open goal at one point, the ball was played into the near post the Spanish player missed it with the English goalie covering that side of the net but the ball went to the back post and with half an empty net and no defenders in the way from a few yards out the Spanish player kicked it across the goal to where the stranded goalie was standing, another Spanish one was similar to their goal but in the second half a player ran through with just the goalie to beat but the England goalie saved it, oh and right at the end the goalie saved a deflected shot with her foot, I would not class the shot from the edge of the box that the English goalie dived full length to save as a chance the Spaniards should have scored from but for England nothing, not once watching the box did I think as a piece of play was developing that England was going to score, I did think that Spain was going to score on a few occasions.

Nothing to comment on England did not exactly get the juices flowing against Haiti, Nigeria, Denmark in fact England rode their luck.

So, not even Spain's best team. Has the media mentioned that?

Talk about a mix of emotions

Awful.

In fairness it's been mentioned in this thread about fifteen times 👍

Terrible news about Spain's Olga Carmona father passing away .

Lauren James' brilliant goals, then her Beckham moment, beating the home team comfortably in the semis, etc...

But no, nothing to comment on until an England team lost. You'd get more respect if you just admitted you hate the English and love seeing them lose at any sport. You must have been really quiet online when they won the Euros.

It was a tuck up to allow James to play in the final, she should have received a three match ban it was clearly violent conduct.

They should stop referring to them as Lionesses in my opinion. To me, it makes them sound more like a novelty team than a bona fide sports team. I can’t recall the men’s teams being referred to as the Lions every time they’re spoken about.

Admittedly I don’t follow women’s football so maybe all the women’s teams have these nicknames. Just seems a bit crap.

They do say “lionesses” a lot I agree, almost like a brand, but I have heard some commentators refer to men’s as the “three lions” and other international teams by their nicknames, but way less frequently, I hear it more in rugby to be honest….all blacks, wallabies, springboks etc etc.

Spain were called ‘La Roja’ a lot and Oz called themselves ‘the Matildas’ more than Australia. On the other hand, France were ‘France’; Sweden were ‘Sweden’; Germany were ‘Shite’ etc.

It’s common in netball too. My niece always talks of the ‘Roses’, the ‘Sunshine Girls’ and ‘fucking Austrailia’

In men’s sport cricket and rugby has started picking up that sort of shite. Fire, Dragons, Ospreys, Bears. I think it’s awful but I’m old and grumpy.

Not sure I heard the German one used by commentators? 😂
That’s done me fair play 😂
I’ve been old and grumpy since my teens, at nearly 48 I’m going on 88 and get annoyed by the most mundane things.
I’m claiming it as a right of passage, even though I’m not anywhere near the passage, so haven’t earned the right, but I’m happy being miserable.
