Do you honestly believe he's had other offers at Championship level?
A rookie manager who took a side who couldn't buy a win since New Years losing 7 in 9 and turning them around over the course of a quarter of a season to produce automatic promotion form including taking points off multiple sides in or competing for the top six?

Oh and available for nothing with no compensation owed to his existing club?

Absolutely I would believe that he has had if not offers then other clubs who had put the feelers out to his agent.

I think if the situation hadn't been sorted then without question it would be negligent of the likes of WBA and Norwich not to look in his direction?

I very much doubt big teams at this level such as them would seriously consider appointing him.

Lower leagues maybe

Any club at this level will have looked at the turnaround Sheehan has managed with the exact same players Luke Williams shat the bed with and taken note of him.

He has for definite had coaching offers from teams at a higher level. If he'd been overlooked for the job here he'd have had a Championship team knocking at his door soon enough.

It doesn't automatically follow that because some people aren't all that impressed that others won't be.

Exactly and you can’t call it a manager bounce after the amount of games he had, points picked up, plus he was known to the players for 18 months, there was talk Coventry wanted him before Frankie came in.

I’m just glad it’s settled if I’m honest. It’s a relief to have no bullshit, no hype and no real fear that we will have another imminent psychodrama. Grimes and Williams out, Sheehan and O’Brien in will do for me.
I was highly fearful that the appointment of someone was going to drag on until late July. Whatever anyone’s views on Sheehan, getting it done now is a big positive in terms of showing stability for potential transfer targets.

No doubt teams will be impressed, but looking at the bigger picture, he's proven he can get a tune out of a struggling team (coming in essentially with not much to lose, no one would have blamed him for relegation). But starting a new season (in our case now with a fair bit if optimism) is a totally different amd potentially a more difficult and pressurised scenario of which he has no experience. He's also got limited contacts that would be of much use in the Championship and hasn't really got his own people helping him (can't see Anthony Wright or KoL realistically leaving with him?). Add onto that he's got no experience of recruitment, having purely inherited squads.

So another championship club appointing him now in my opinion would be a huge and probably needless risk. His agent has been working hard. Having said that, he would have been a fair coup for a league 1 side.

I respectfully disagree on some of that.

Most Championship clubs are reaching the point where they either become the next managerial notch on the bed post for the likes of Tony Mowbray or Neil Warnock or they take a chance on someone untested in the Championship level. Very few clubs have the financial clout to be able to recruit the likes of a Daniel Farke or a Scott Parker.

While that approach didn't work for Duff or Williams, one has to say that it proved fairly successful for our three managerial appointments prior to 2023.

Potter was poached by Brighton who went on to have consistently their most successful 3 or 4 years in their history
Cooper was snapped up by Forest who got promoted under his leadership (against almost all expectations)
Martin went to Southampton and got promoted (though admittedly it was harder to fail than get promoted with the squad at his disposal)

But ultimately all the managers you name had experience of being the permanent number 1 for several seasons prior to being appointed by those clubs albeit at lower levels.

Cooper never had experience of being the permanent number 1 before joining us.

My point though is that clubs are more and more looking at creative alternatives rather than just being the next ride in the managerial merry go round that makes up the older heads and more typical suspects

No, it's not an exact science and we have a history of appointing inexperienced managers from outside of the box, but my point wasn't about us appointing Sheehan. Us appointing a novice isnt a surprise. Cooper of course had won a major trophy as a youth manager and evidently had tremendous contacts.
