I liked Potter when he was here. He may be running out of chances now. Has been a long time since he got a team playing consistently well.

Got to say, I see things completely different to that, which is the beauty of football and this forum 🙌🏼

Can't see Potter getting another job anytime soon after West Ham sack him.
if he does go, he'll easily get a job abroad, where I think his style is better suited.

But Potter was never a possession for possession's sake manager.

The Man City FA Cup game alone was enough evidence of that, we played their 100pt team off the park in the first half. There were many other games that season where we wiped the floor with teams with incisive attacking football. We beat Wilder's Sheffield United home and away, who got promoted that season. In the away game we destroyed them. And we also gave Brentford a schooling, which is something Cooper couldn't manage in two seasons, despite having a much better squad.

If there was one area that let Potter down here, then it was too much experimentation with weird formations or players out of position. I recall a game against Wigan (I think) where he had Grimes as a centre back as part of a 3 or something stupid like that and it was all very weird and unnecessary. He did a few times and it was overthinking.

But no way should he be lumped in with Martin. I'm not saying he should be getting another Big 6 job anytime soon, but chucking him in with the chinwigged one is just insulting.
Zonal defending was his undoing. Completely and utterly. Defenders being told to defend space instead of marking players. Ridiculous concept that doesn’t work and watching MOTD on Saturday it seems he’s still at it.
