S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | PNE 2 Swansea City 1 | Att: 15,911 | 05/11/25 | The EFL Championship | Deepdale

For me, the difference between a decent player and a very good or great player is consistency. Most players at championship level can produce glimpses of excellence. The very good players produce it more frequently. The truly great produce it all of the time.
That’s not coaching. It’s ability.

And please don’t assume that I think Sheehan is the solution as I don’t.

When you have a team of fairly average players as I believe we largely have (some a bit better, some a bit worse) , it is possible to coach them to be a much better team than individual ability would suggest. Sheehan won’t do that.
That’s not coaching. It’s ability.

And mentality and sheer will, football is habitual and we don't show any good football habits throughout a game, Keys defending for one, Casey lacking composure in the box, our insistence on standing on a ball and turning backwards, instead of turning and driving with the ball.. Preston were not great, but they all showed good teamwork, shape, discipline and better habits, they're well coached.. we just change personnel and formations and look like we've never kicked a ball before

Sheehan has had enough time with this team and yet he doesn't really know his best starting 11 which is scary. I think his experiments will keep going. He saved us last season and I wanted to give him a shot, but he is on borrowed time. He'll be gone by the new year.
That may be though because we have bought individual players for resale purposes rather than thinking about how they fit together as a team.

This is just my opinion, and of course many may see it differently.
I felt like today we were getting to that final third a lot more than we normally do and applying much more pressure.
Problem though as I stated, is that the final ball is often woeful or the wrong choice.

We are good between both boxes. If we were just okay in their box, then it would be tolerable and you could keep some faith but we are so bad at breaking teams down and after 14 games I would not say we have had a good attacking half yet let alone a good attacking 90 minutes.

Well I include mental strength, sheer will etc as part of a players ability. Some players can, of course be coached to improve but it is innate.

A couple of weeks ago (maybe it was after the QPR match) I was willing to give AS until after the Wrexham match next month. All I needed to see was some reasonable improvement out of the squad. We haven't gotten that.

I will confidently say now that, for me, if we don't win against Ipswich we have to get rid of him. Perhaps even if we do get a result. We will have the international break then, so it gives us almost 2 weeks to get someone in and settled before Bristol City. I like him as a person but the results just haven't been good enough and we haven't improved really at all.

The question is, who do we go for? We need someone that's a surefire improvement over AS.

But the fact is mon he's done nothing to get us creating more since the start of the season: it's a consistent pattern, not one or two games. Give him til Jan when we're in the bottom 6 with 23 goals scored? Why?
I just don’t think we can keep sacking/losing managers. I wouldn’t be opening a vein if he goes for sure, and it might be a relief, but I’m still hoping he can pull a rabbit out of his arse, I mean hat.

Nahh I would kindly disagree. You can see Sheehan has set this team up completely wrong. We go backwards in attacking areas and we are setting up like we are looking to draw every game.

I don’t see it happening to be honest. In that interview with Gorringe he was saying Sheehan was great.

Andrew Mole Hill would be a good choice, comes across as a frustrated manager in waiting…give him the gig.

Does anyone have any idea as to why we’ve taken a man out midfield to accommodate an additional rookie CB when our defence was settled and pretty good already? I can understand it for Man C, but our weakness in the league hasn’t been at the back.
Because he and we are in a position to give anything a go in hope we can put in a performance.

It needs to be a 4-5-1 with a no 10 playing behind the striker.

Maybe worth putting Ronald at RB(can't be worse than Key) and Eom out wide?

I completely agree, but the new owners have clear ambition. The squad surely has talent. We need to be able to unlock that talent. And, if we are to make a change, it might as well be now. No need to wait to rip off the bandage. The new manager would have time to get in, assess the squad, and possibly have an idea of something they may want in the Jan window.

Agree we can’t keep sacking managers nobody wants us to become a basket case of a club but Sheehan shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place.

One reason to keep Sheehan for a while longer is to make sure they get the right person. He is a good man who will not take us down. I worry about who would be picking the new manager and if Gorringe would need some support on that. I am sure behind the scenes the last 6 weeks will have started a search for options just incase and also that the January window can not be players who Sheehan is pushing if he will not be there to coach them. They do not need to rush into a new coach so will have time to do a proper search. I do not think many people think Sheehan is here for the long run at this point.

Well I can see us having a load of central midfielders and no one with creativity. One of them may find some but we haven’t really considered shape as far as I can see. If we really had, where’s the Key alternative? Were we planning on 3 at the back or 2. Full backs or wingbacks? Of were we thinking this bloke is underpriced for his ability and we will make a good profit on him?

I don't want us to keep sacking managers. And Sheehan is new to first team management. But it's just not improving is it. Its getting worse. Not the results. But the performances. Attendance is down at home and ambition off the field is not gonna settle for what we are seeing. We are not asking for top spot, but we want to show more and be entertained. At moment we are showing nothing. Keep Sheehan in and when Galbraith and VP goes, he will have 0 hope. If he can't get a tune out of the players he has at his disposal its only gonna get worse.
