They were unchanged from Saturday, but not sure what that tells us.

Also - looking at Fotmob (I know, I know...) of all their players (6 in total) ranked over 7/10 this season to date, all but one was in their starting line up tonight. So, they might be down a few bodies, but not the bodies that matter.

Had a gander at a PNE forum, didn't scan every page, but saw quite a few opinions similar to these that I grabbed



Similar to the comments from Charlton fans after the game on Saturday.

Now, we only got 1 point from those 2 games, but why is everyone so eager to look at the negative of everything? 2 tough away games against teams in the top 6 and we played well overall in both? Doesn't this give anyone any encouragement that we're not that far away from turning this around? Do we just want to blow this all up NOW and start again?

I don't know. Probably something to do with the fact that we're 17th, won 2 games in 10, scored less than a goal a game and create fuck all week in week out whilst defending like minges.

Our performances havent been a great entertaining watch.

lots of excuses have been offered up in defence of Sheehan who is so obviously out of his depth.

But who do we replace him with?

Many may disagree but we have a squad which is above average .

I like AS ..but a he is not a manager/head coach.

He absolutely should have been appointed, because we were on our arse when he took over, and we ended up only a handful of points outside the playoffs. He earned the job.

Whether he's the right man right now is clearly up for debate, as we've seen on here tonight, but that's a different story.

The fact you think he shouldn't have had it to begin with explains a lot.

whilst you are right, many caretaker or interim managers that started off well and were made permanent ended up not being successful and got sacked, we've had Francesco Guidolin. Also there was Ole Gunnar Solskjær for Man Utd, Roberto Di Matteo for Chelsea, Tim Sherwood at Spurs, Andrea Stramaccioni at Inter, Kenny Dalglish for Liverpool,
Craig Shakespeare at Leicester, Stuart Gray at Southampton, Stuart Pearce at Manchester City, Nigel Adkins at Tranmere etc.

Cardiff have also had a few caretaker or interim managers that started off well and were made permanent like Mark Hudson, Omar Riza and Steve Morison

Andy Crosby at Tranmere isn't doing great [they're 17th in L2], Matt Hamshaw at Rotherham is doing ok, they're 12th currently in L1. Our former player Conor Hourihane at Barnsley is just above them.

The only appointment that worked was Hansi Flick at Bayern.

They'll go for a data aficionado, that will work within a structured framework, to enhance the production line output of the business model.. this is where football is going.. Josh Key should've f*cking cleared a long ball over the top, like a professional, don't need no data sheet to tell the tw*t

To be honest, I’m not opposed to data in football. I don’t think the owners make decisions purely off of data. In fact, the decision to appoint Sheehan wouldn’t have been all data driven because he had only managed a small sample size of games. His pre-existing relationship with the players certainly would have help and that wouldn’t have been made using data.

I feel data is used more to inform rather than make decisions. I do think it can make discussions about football quite sterile though with people just throwing out stats left right and centre. I am definitely guilty of this myself!

A few quick possibilities without research, etc.:

Bruno Lage - was an assistant here under Carvalhal; would honestly depend on how he liked the area

Raphael Wicky - if I remember correctly, WBA were about to appoint him near the window last season but couldn't convince his staff to come to the UK for whatever reason. Still out of work, so perhaps those backroom lads might be more amenable now.

Brendan and Carlos Carvalhal are both available though I'm not sure how much I like the idea of bringing in someone new who isn't new.

I'm sure none of these will replace AS though.

Who would be considered “higher” that would come here though? Don’t think Brendan was ever realistic. Gary O’Neil at a stretch? Although he’s just been interviewed for a PL job. Hellberg still an option?
