Colours Nailed and all that

"task at hand"

What is this task at hand stuff then? Say every team is too strong, too good, accept our fate, Charlton beat Ipswich at Ipswich 3-0.. are we better than Charlton.. the excuses are beyond nutty, we've got million pound players out there.. Charlton haven't.. everyone is raving about Matos as the 2nd coming, he's got a 44% win rate, Sheehan had a 42% win rate.. the problem is fans have a "bias" towards their team.. but because I've been fed information on football, winning dressing rooms and people at the pinnacle, your biases and feelings have to be chucked out of the window to get to where you want to be.. being positive doesn't equate to reality on a football pitch
With all your deep knowledge why do you never offer up any suggestions to get us out of your so called plight? It’s very easy to say how bad we are after we lose. But you’re so quiet when we’re playing well. Can’t spit out your usual tripe then I guess.

Charlton are 18th and Ipswich are 4th after 35 games, that means that the Charlton win is rare and Ipswich win is common. I don’t think anyone is giving up prior to the game, but after the defeat it’s easy to see why.

Their left back will cost double what our starting 11 did.
Ipswich have lost points in 50% of their games, that's common, smart a*se.

What has this got to do with our squad costing millions?

Well, it's plainly obvious, you have two CBs who can't control and pass a football correctly when we build up play, we have two RBs on the bench and our only composed technical midfielder at RB.. teams have worked out that forcing Cabango and Burgess to have the ball is a "safe" strategy for them, plus the space between RB/LB and CB get exploited with pace on the outside, plus we're negative safety first merchants.. and we run a lot, but running doesn't equate to goals, you might nick one or two, but if you're not willing to pass through, it's pointless turning up.. it's not tripe, if you can't handle an opinion without bias, football isn't the thing for you

I was not convinced by the appointment of Matos but barring a total disaster he’s earned us enough points to stay up this season, that said, you have to say we’re pretty much a one dimensional team under his stewardship.

In my opinion you’re starting to see the limitations of the pressing game, players are starting to look knackered and are starting to revert to type by playing the ball around in our own half, totally understandable i suppose when you consider the level of effort required to play that way.

Today there was a naivety in our play even the the Ipswich commentators were saying that we’d get a bit of a ragging by being so open against them, poor tactics and team selection didn’t help either.

Galbraith has to play in the middle, he is the only player that can capitalise on the transition, it’s great winning the ball back but a total waste of time if we’re too slow to use it, we saw that on several occasions today and against Derby and Hull.

I like Matos, his personality and enthusiasm is infectious but I liked Sheehan as well, liking someone doesn’t make them a good manager, some have gone overboard with their praise of Vitor but our performances away from home have not been good enough we’re too soft and too easy to beat.

We’ll stay up this season and I’m more than happy with that but there will be a huge challenge for the manager next season.

I absolutely agree with most of what you've said here. We are and Matos are being found lacking now we've had a run of difficult games. However, this is entirely natural, this is learning / transition and these are by their very nature tough games. But this cannot continue into next season with our 'expensively assembled squad'. Our 'best in class' recruitment team need to be looking at replacements in the obviously deficient areas 'prompto'.

Sheehans win rate as permanent Swansea manager was 23%. That goes without mentioning the dreadful underlying numbers he had us performing at. He also had a whole pre season and transfer window to implement those "ideas" aswell. Please don't compare any manager we had with Sheehan unless his name is Bob Bradley.

We are an ok team and have seen some improvement under Matos where relegation shouldn't be a threat this season even though the next 6 matches are very difficult.
The squad consists of players who aren't capable of playing a high tempo game, now that could be down to pre season fitness and conditioning.
There will be changes in the summer but all being well the foundations will have been set this season.
We can all see we lack that spark when needed, can those players come in the summer or can current players step up after a bedding in period?
Yet again we are in for a summer of hope that we can hit next season running.

Bit of a knee jerk reaction thread probably driven by any lingering chance of a play off challenge being put to bed.

Matos is playing the hand he's inherited with all it's limitations. The squad is not top 6 quality as some have suggested, the limited creativity is still there and we have no goal consistent goal scorers Vip apart in the squad.

We have a base to build on and there needs a clear recruitment plan in the summer to support Matos's game plan.

Vip and Galbraith could raise £25M if they both leave giving us some headroom to get replacements in.

We’re going to need far more than £25m if Matos wants to continue to play the way he wants that’s for sure, selling arguably our two best players is really going to help isn’t it, that would be a case of one step forward and two back.
Dreadful team selection against Preston on Tuesday and persisting with playing Galbraith at RB isn’t helping either.

We need energy and drive in the middle of the park, Franco has destructive energy and EB should be given the opportunity to provide the creative energy that we lack at the moment.

Like I said it’s pointless expending huge amounts of energy wining the ball back if you don’t have the pace and quality in the middle to capitalise on it.

For me we are where we deserve to be .
Teams in the playoffs are there because they can win on the road , keep clean sheets score lots of goals.
Hull , Millwall & Wrexham are good examples of this .
We are an average team with average players with the odd exceptions .

After the turn around of players in the summer a new coach did anybody expect a push for the playoffs .

Having an energetic midfield doesn't mask the weakness defensively or the lack of goals .
Another good transfer window should see us be a top 10 team .

Talking about Charlton winning at Ipswich they are the only team to win at Ipswich .
The recruitment from those top 6 clubs tells you everything .
