Melker Widell

Very familiar logical fallacy used by a dearly departed member of the forum who predates your recent arrival.

We are not a League Two team anymore thank god. Expectations are higher and a solitary Sweden cap does not guarantee quality these days when the league is full of international players, indeed our own squad is full of international players, some of whom are seen as great and some of whom are seen as not good enough.

Let us hope Melker improves and becomes a cult hero, but I will base it on his performances in our shirt and not 4 minutes against Northern Ireland.

It’s been noted before then I take it, very interesting. No we are most certainly not a League Two side anymore, we are levels above that. Which is why we are fortunate to have the likes of Melker play for us, I would say he’s already a fans favourite. Fans being the operative word.

So that’s nobody then, excellent.

I’m off to find me a white steed I can sit atop of.
Me too seeing as nobody could find a single post in which Widell was 'hung out to dry'.

I'll admit I was OTT in suggesting people jumped down a poster's throat. In hindsight, it was a lot milder than that and I overreacted, my apologies.

Although I did snigger at seeing that apparently a player signed to be an attacking and creative player is now a fan favourite for the 'real fans', despite not contributing a single goal and just one assist in 31 appearances. That is just as much as an over-reaction as writing him off already.

Have we learned nothing from Guehi's loan here? He wasn't much cop in the first 6 months.
But he adapted, learned & was then one of our best players.
never write off a player too soon.
Gyokores was described on forum as the Swedish meatball - we have lots of fans who can’t recognize talent, but like to vent behind a keyboard.

I think you've missed something butt.

Expectations are being driven through the floor. I think Matos is doing a good job, we have a handful of good to great players and the rest are fairly average with our season and performances largely demonstrating this. Others would have you think that we have lots of good players, except the ones signed before January 2025 - ignoring when Tymon, Vipotnik and Vig joined for an unexplained reason - and the coach is doing well, so I am not sure what the logic is for us still being an average at best team for the league. The blame can not be placed entirely at the feet of Ronald and Key. I do not think there is anything wrong with a dose of realism as long as it is not relentlessly critical. There is definitely a balance between players being given time and being judged on actual performances.

Some players can do what Vipotnik has done but expecting that to be possible for every player is unrealistic, he is the exception. I did not see many people desperate for Biancheri to be given a second season and I think that consensus has been well vindicated. On the other hand, I thought Eom would improve this year and justify the persistence and if anything he has gone backwards.

Any suggestion you have to give every player endless blind praise to be a 'real' fan is the type of behaviour even my son would consider immature. Thankfully that is an isolated attitude and most people on here are more balanced and less prone to fabrication.

I honestly do not understand and never will understand the need for certain fractions of our fanbases incessant need to be so critical of new signings in such a short period of time.

The club is on a positive upward trajectory both on and off the pitch, yet it still isn't enough for some.

I totally understand being constructive with the criticism of a player some of the crap written online is bonkers.

Let’s just say there is a vested interest from 1 or 2 to be negative. Axes to grind, lemons to be sucked. I gather it may make sense to everyone soon..

In the meantime, the real ones will keep supporting OUR club.

There's a huge difference between blind positivity and thinking it's a ridiculous notion to sell him at this stage. There also nothing wrong with saying he hasn't yet made the impact we hoped he would, but that doesn't mean he still can't. You're right, he might not improve. But it's way to early to make any kind of judgement of a player.
