Summer Transfer Window

Missing the point. Nobody would have claimed that he could have stepped in and done as well as he did.

One of the major reasons why so few have stepped up from the reserves is our reluctance in giving them serious opportunities to do so. Prospects are stuck playing u21 football until they're 21/22. That's far too late.

Realistically players should be out on loan at 17/18, or in our matchday squads if they're deemed to have enough potential. We drag things out too much.
Ben Davies was being earmarked in pre season prior to Taylor getting injured, he was seen as someone who was ready to be back up to Taylor for the season. He was going to make it with or without Taylor getting injured.....the academy coaches and senior coaches were already aware of his potential.
I agree with you regards the age thing, clubs seem reluctant to give players their chances until their in their early 20s unless a player is exceptional.

I fully understand your point, I am just highlighting that there is no one in the youth set up good enough for this coming season to be Tymons back up. If we had a Sam Parker capable of playing LB then we would have our solution but sadly we don't.

All for suggesting a youth player as long as a name can be suggested that is justifiable for the spot. I don't fall for the saying let's just throw someone in and see how it goes.....you never know! In relation to Ben Davies, people who knew, those people had confidence in him.

Harry Toffolo or Jamal Lewis on a free for LB cover.
Too expensive. British players who have both been on premier league wages for the last few seasons.
Both will have clubs willing to pay good money in wages, we won't be paying those type of wages for a player to come in as back up.

Nothing like a reality check either.. as we saw last season initially with Franco and Eom.
I don't necessarily disagree with you, but, myself included, we've been guilty of condemning the hierarchy for not delivering on promises. But I have to say that they've far exceeded MY expectations. I fully realise that some bedding in will be required, and I hope the supporters allow for that, but I'm sure we'll come good soon enough.

For now there are tons of questions regarding our intended shape and formation
Realistically it probably won't be until towards the end of pre season and the final two friendlies or so that we start to see our intended starting lineup in mind for Boro

Paal is another option plenty of experience with QPR at this level, I’m sure we was linked with him before he went there.

That’s going to be a tough position to fill for us, markets pretty sparse. You could gamble on someone like Brandon Williams, or a more experienced player like Joel Ward, Aaron Creswell and Ashley Young
Can Key play there? If so Galbraith can drop in to RB if Tymon is injured.

Personally I wouldn't want to rely on Key as Tymon's

back up, his defending is atrocious. Yes he was better when Williams left and stopped the stupid inverting, but he was still way below the level required for a top half Championship team (assuming that's our ambition).

If Galbraith is half decent at RB he will supplant Key.

Looking at free agents, it's tough to pinpoint a single one as suiting what we need from a left back. Tymon's comfortably good enough to warrant starting virtually every game, but there aren't many players available who offer consistent experience in a league like this whilst only being likely to happily sit on the bench. There are some good options for starters - Harry Toffolo would be a fantastic signing - but doubt we'd want to waste the wage on a position we're solid enough in already.

The idea of promoting youth is optimistic to think of, but the floor is so low if it goes wrong. All well and good if Dabrowski turns into the next Ben Davies, but if he's not cut out for this level, we're completely hung out to dry until January. Ideally, the scouts have found someone able to play on both sides, and isn't desparate to start every week, but I'm very unsure who would fit that mold

If posters havn't taken with a pinch of salt the cost of players' wages let alone transfer fees then they never will. Comic cuts used to be an apt phrase to describe rubbish when I was growing up(a long, long time ago I might add). Discuss the financial side of the game by all means but start believing any truth in the posting when the facts are proven or with a signing when the player is wearing the shirt, or when you are watching one of Sophia's cringeworthy videos of the player on the OS.

I would like to see what the youth/u23s have to offer for a position where our first choice missed only a handful of games last season and was also our joint highest creative outlet for assists. There are far worse players out there to be an understudy to than Tymon
Seb Dabrowski and Arthur Parker have both made great improvements and they could be looking for loans for the new season. It might be a little bit early to see them in the first team squad but both players are moving in the right direction.

We won't be using any youth/academy player to cover Tymon this coming season.
Sam Parker won't even be covering Key if he gets injured or suspended, Galbraith will be the cover for Key but will primarily be used as a central midfielder unless required at RB.

Its all well and good saying we should use our academy but what is the alternative if the players are not up to scratch?

People were yelling for Kyrell Wilson at a stage last season, he went out to Yeovil in the conference and didn't set the world alight. It's a huge step up from youth/U21 to senior football
Kyrell Wilson missed much of last season through injury and was obviously not at his peak during his loan at Yeovil but he impressed enough to be mentioned in the club's end of season awards.

Unfortunately football is littered with head coaches desiring loan players from PL clubs in preference to giving opportunities to those in the club's U21 team. Going back to RM's tenure were the following any better than what we already had at the club-Finley Burns, Finn Stevens, Mattie Sorinola, Armstrong Okoflex, Harrison Ashby, Charles Sagoe junior, Nathan Abbey etc.

Rhys Williams Bashir Humphreys.
Just because they are from a PL academy, doesn't mean they'll be much cop!
