The Summer Transfer Window Thread

Celtic fan coming in peace here re Idah.

Honestly, one of the worst ‘first team’ strikers in my lifetime and im really hoping you guys get the deal done. He may have scored 20 goals last season - some stats on that:
• 6 of those goals came when Celtic was already at least 3 goals up
• 11 came when Celtic was at least 2 goals up
• He only gave Celtic the lead 3 times last season: vs Falkirk, Motherwell away and Hibs at home (after the league splits for the final 5 fixtures)
• He never gave Celtic a 1-0 lead
• Only score Celtic’s first goal twice (vs Villa (dead rubber) and Rangers)
• Only scored 3 times before 40th min (Motherwell away, Villa x2).

His hold up play is abysmal, I’ve never seen someone so unable to take a first touch. If you play with space in behind the opponents backline, he’s probably fine. He was a much maligned figure last season but I think his preseason and the first couple of league games has cemented the supports opinion on him, and it didn’t help with Rodgers played politics and hooked him at HT - something we’ve noticed is he only uses a HT sub to either control a narrative or make a point - in our champions league playoff tie last week.

against a team that parks the bus, he just doesn’t move, is static and easy to defend against. I’ve plenty of ‘every Idah touch’ in x game if you want me to fire it up, let me know.

All the best for the season ahead anyway lads. Cheers.

Celtic fan coming in peace..

Please can you burden yourself with our worst striker ever and raid you transfer kitty in the process for a dud 😅😅

With him having a half decent scoring record I wonder why the Celtic fans are so against him.
It's the price tag, at the time Idah was the record signing, 9 million is a lot of money up in Glasgow, expectations were high, 20 goals last season wasn't good enough for many. The ghost of Henrick Larsson will haunte every striker at Celtic Park unfortunately (for them)

Indy Reporting that Idah is going to be in the match day squad for tomorrow's game, be that on the bench. Talk about Rodgers playing a dangerous game. Not like it all can't be signed off for and done within 24 hours, but still risky tactic. I'm at the point where I don't know if I want this transfer to go through or not. And we keep VP?
What if he gets an injury? Ridiculous situation for us

Exactly. And Rodgers will have waisted millions for Celtic and an unhappy player if he doesn't go. Just shows you the back bone of their club if they are allowing a manager to dictate who goes or stays. And then go risk him in a match day squad.

So I'm not sure your age, but in terms of being the worst first team striker in your life time, when was the last time a starting striker at Celtic would have gone to a club in our position mid-table in the Championship? The strikers your used to having leading the line for you, would never be in with a chance of joining us in our current position. The last one would perhaps be Teemu Pukki over a decade ago, and proved to be very good at Championship level.

There's clearly a very different standard and expectation between the clubs, and the standard that Idah has to come in and be better than (Vipotnik and Cullen) isn't anywhere near the expectation of replacing Kyogo in the starting line-up.

With teams parking the bus, I'm not sure we'll be in a position this season where a team will park the bus against us from the outset of a game. He'll have space to get in behind, we just need someone who's willing and able to make those runs in behind which we currently don't have.

In terms of goals and when they're scored, last season our top scorer was Liam Cullen with 12 goals in all competitions (he's not scored or looked like scoring this season) and the season before it was Jamal Lowe with 9 goals - that's before you even look at when the goals were scored and if they were meaningful. If Adam Idah gets 12 goals this season we'll be happy, regardless of when they're scored.
