2023/24 Financial Statements

How much are we covering wages of players out on loan on top of paying the transfer fees for them?

Also Pederson? In 23/24 season he had 4 starts and 1 sub for us and 1 start 3 sub for Sheff Wed

This season 2 League cup starts for us.

I know he's out of contract at the end of the season but surely if it's injury related wouldn't we have gone for an insurance pay off?

Player wages should be capped in the Championship including loaners.

The range of earning within our squad is ridiculous. Also the Ped situation is just obscene.

It isn't logical that most Championship clubs are running at multi million pound losses while still paying out ridiculous wages and fees.
Football as a business should not be dependent on continuous input from owners or running up large debts.

The absurd reality of the financial state of the Championship is a direct result of the "Premier League dream and all of its riches" bubble which has yet to burst. So many teams justify spending big money and big wages on players in the hopes that it will get them promoted to the Premier League and the hundreds of millions that even just one season plus three years of parachute payments are worth.

This forces other teams to feel like they have to match if not exceed that "ambition" to stay competitive and also have a chance at promotion. The Championship is a very different animal than it was 15 years ago

I think almost every side in the Championship last season made a financial loss except for Ipswich. Only three teams every year can get promoted and the teams who come down from the Premier League the season before have a huge boost in financial muscle and have a different starting line to the rest of the division.

Its a recipe that will only end in disaster and that bubble will burst and burst hard sometime in the next few years.

Especially when the whole idea behind PSR is for clubs to be sustainable and not reliant on owners, it's impossible unless wages are massively reduced across the board

Good job these owners have backers who are willing to plug these losses and keep the lights on isn't it? Still yet to meet one person who can explain to me what happens when we "get them out"....

Same people on here who moan about the losses, will be the first ones to moan about the "lack of ambition" if they make a sale in the summer.

That's the stark reality. 3 teams can get promoted, and the way the finance is today the odds are stacked in favour of the relegated teams.
There's always an outside chance, as the rest of the league is much the same, but how many seasons of losses can be balanced against the riches of maybe one season in the Premier plus parachute payments.

Great analysis of the state of affairs. However, there's no reason why the bubble will burst as long as owners are willing to make up the losses of £15 million or so a year. It's entirely sustainable as long as that will to stump the losses is there. Keiran Maguire, the expert on football finances, is very clear and chilled about this. Bonkers in any other business, but who's to tell owners not to chase the dream of reaching the PL?

Bang on.

And yet some of our twpest twps still bash our new, giving owners. Couldn't make it up.

Our owners have smashed our record spend. Kept our lights on +++

Next level funding has not only kept our lights on but delivered some proper gems in the global market. And we're seeing the fruits of those clever investments, with a proper manager.

Without our owners spending and stewardship, our entitled fans would be whining at an altogether different level of decibel.

Some of our entitled, shouty fans need to get a proper grip.

You're acceptance of mediocrity / borderline ineptitude is rather startling.

We're not safe from relegation trouble and the next time we play will be April, with no permanent manager.

Things are just swell though because the new owners are paying the bare minimum liabilities they knowingly took on when they bought the club.

Don't you ever aspire to anything better?

The trust had the opportunity to seek out investors between 2014-15 before the inevitable dilution.. I think I said this around that period, but was once again attacked and derided, as usual

Was that really feasible? They're a supporters trust, not an investment company - not sure how obtaining outside investors would even be allowed?

They could have sold shares back then but there was no need to. They had a say in the running of the club and a good relationship with the other owners.

Plus a shareholders agreement to protect them.....

And it's now way beyond ironic how some folk now have the audacity to diss the current trust - in fact comedy gold watching it unfold.........each and every time.......

Acceptance of mediocrity of once again.

Don't you want a trust that has the means to hold the other owners to account? With a large membership, influence, a decent shareholding and balls?

Or this trust? propaganda poodles for the owners?

Don't you ever aspire to anything better?

Why would businessmen put millions in a year just to keep our heads above water with no real look of us ever competing for promotion to the Premier league? Surely that is their ambition?

I'm of the mindset that people don't just give things away without anything in return and especially so with money and in this case in the millions.

I get your point, but they knew the situation the club was in, they decided to buy the club based on the ongoing costs for running a club.

The old owners were doing that too. So what can these new owners actually offer the club to move it forward?

You've been a vocal supporter of them, but now this post sounds more like damage limitation?

That's a very good question. I guess that the owners hope that the possession-led playing model and data analysis recruitment will give us a competitive edge. That may be the case, but we're so far behind in other areas it's hard to see how we can seriously challenge for promotion.

Why do you think they’re doing it, genuine question.
