938 new cases

I haven't heard of anyone just going for a test routinely just in case they may have it.

See Lisa's post above. Routine testing and even door to door testing (in certain areas) is finding positive cases in people with absolutely no symptoms. The way forward with these areas is local lock down and tighter restrictions than elsewhere in the country. Why should Swansea be locked down because of spikes of cases in Blackburn?

In the absence of a vaccine a steady number of cases with a continuing decline in deaths is probably one of the better case scenarios. It's almost like the kind of managed burn you'd see in forestry.

The virus is out there, locking down completely is unfeasible, so control it as best we can.

My understanding is that, only those with symptoms will be tested. It's certainly the case in the NHS

They’re doing door to door testing in some areas. They are testing loads of asymptomatic people in the ‘hot spots’. They’re also routinely testing in the NHS in England,

Not in Somerset they aren't, where i know a nurse, and I can't find evidence of mass testing in the English NHS either

My daughter is a nurse in an English hospital & they're only testing staff if they feel unwell & start showing symptoms

A mate and a few of his colleagues tried getting tested today due to a colleague who works in the same office as them, testing positive.

They wouldn't have any of it, they said if they needed testing the test and trace mob would be in contact.

The chap tested positive this morning and is asymptomatic, nobody has been contacted by the T&T lot yet.

My sister in law is a nurse in Devon and she’s being tested regularly, symptomatic or not. Seems that there’s no consistency of action which is unsurprising given the powers that be have an abominable record in dealing with this.

Very true, hospitals in Exeter & Torquay with different testing policies - absolutely mad really

I didn't say that was the case. She's not correct about everything that she writes and neither am I. However on this occasion we are both correct.

No you aren't, but we can go around in circles

I would imagine that it depends on which NHS trust people work for. As we've seen in Wales, there's a wide disparity between them.

Higher infection rates not being shown in the death rate suggests that shielders are still shielding whilst those with little risk of severe illness/dying are out there occasionally picking it up. PPE is now much more readily available so she don't have the medics dying as they were in the early days.

The current death rate is below the average death rate for the time of year so maybe covid resulted in deaths in March/April/May which would normally have occurred in July/August/September without covid?

Think that's pretty much a given.

It depends on your job within the NHS (in England - no idea what Wales are doing).

They obviously don’t routinely test every nurse, doctor, other worker - that’s the entire testing capacity and some.

They routinely test what are called ‘Covid critical’ workers. I imagine those that are most likely to become infected or to pass infection on.

I also know they are doing door to door testing - as I said previously - it’s hot spots (no, not Somerset...)

In Leicester people are moaning all over social media about ‘their rights’ and whether they can refuse testing when they visit (morons). I know they’ve also been doing large scale community testing (whether symptomatic or not) in Greater Manchester as I know people who’ve been tested as part of it. No symptoms - just in an area where they’re testing everyone (or I imagine a wide sample) to see what’s going on.
